VGK may move to terminate Lehner's contract
Apparently Lehner did not report for a preseason medical exam
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/so...rt-for-medical
Quote:
The Vegas Golden Knights are reviewing their options, up to and including contract termination, after goaltender Robin Lehner failed to attend training camp for a mandatory pre-season medical exam required to confirm his ineligibility to play, multiple sources told Daily Faceoff.
The Golden Knights have consulted with the NHL on the issue, which in turn, has been in touch with the NHL Players’ Association regarding proper contractual treatment in light of a situation which includes unique circumstances.
Lehner, 33, has not played in the NHL since April 20, 2022 and was expected to miss his third consecutive full season due to injury this year after undergoing hip surgery in Aug. 2022. He was set to enter the final year of his five-year, $25 million contract, with a $4.5 million salary owed for 2024-25.
The NHL-NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that injured players, even those who have been on LTIR for multiple seasons, must undergo a medical exam at the start of every season they are under contract that confirms they are unfit to play. The player can then be placed on the long-term injury list at the team’s discretion and seek cap relief, if required.

I’ll start it off.
Wonder how much they paid him to stay away so they can terminate the contract.

He was just going to be on LTIR all season, so doubt it's that.
For me I more worry about how the guy is just doing as a human, if I'm not mistaken he's battled mental health issues and hopefully he's doing alright.
For Vegas it doesn't really impact them right now, but if they can be $1.3M under the cap instead of having to leverage LTIr that could be big for them at the deadline.

Yeesh. The Knights would've had the money off their cap no matter what. But you have to wonder what's up with the guy that potentially just voided 4.5 million.

I don't think it's that
Judging by his previous issues, this has the optics of him being off the rails again and screwing himself out of $4.5 million .

Forgot about that.
Any cap cap moves like this by Knights always brings up the conspiracy theories.

Vegas paid him off, they get more cap space in having him completely off the cap instead of LTIR, what a bunch of *_$#@#& losers

Before the conspiracy's start, there's no way they're going to risk tampering by playing this card. The juice isn't worth the squeeze at all. They are a ruthless organization though. Guy with a mental health issue misses first day and they're about to tear the contract up, without a proper time to investigate? That's American capitalism for you.

Why would a guy, turn down that much money, regardless if he even currently has mental health concerns, nobody would do that and frankly...it's Vegas

‘Sources say’, without attribution and with no direct quotes, and you immediately jump to the conclusion that the Golden Knights are scheming to tear up the contract?
That's not ‘American capitalism’, that's bad journalism and a gullible audience.

He's made nearly 40M in his career. At this stage, perhaps he's just decided it's better for his mental health to not be there.
Lehner is on the record discussing his struggles with bipolarism, ADHD, and PTSD, as well as substance abuse.
But sure the most likely outcome is that this is a cap circumvention tactic by Vegas as opposed to someone legitimately struggling with their mental health.

I have a lot of time for Lehner and will definitely give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.
The guy has been extremely open in the past about his mental health struggles. I think he's been pretty amazing to open up so much about it, and really all I care about is that he's ok.

I’m thinking that this isn’t a person that didn’t get the proper calendar invite so missed the flight, and, more succinctly put, that the Vegas medical team wasn’t wondering where their 10:00 appointment was.
There would be some communication between the parties.
Put another way, what is the likelihood that lehner would pass the medical and be fit to play? I’m guessing zero, so the formality of “not able to play” is likely in both parties’ interests.
It seems to have moved quickly for a day or two.

Did this injury essentially end his career? Like the Shea Weber retired but not retired?

Someone should check on him incase he’s constricted at his snake farm. Wasn’t it snake breeding that scammed him out of some big dough already?
