Giving up a good player, taking on a bad contract. Looks pretty rough for Philly on paper unless they are trading up or just really wanted to get rid of Provorov that badly?

Why is it always these 3 teams in big interesting trades with each other? Dance with the devil you know I suppose.

Trade doesn't really have anything to do with the Flames was my point
this trade has zero effect on the value of Noah Hanifin

They will clearly be getting futures as well, but the 3rd overall is a pipedream unless as you said it involves Philly moving up from 7.

For 2 years of Provorov? seems like a hefty price. I could see one or the other being a part of it but not the first AND one of those guys

Two years of a #2 or 3 defender on a 4.7M dollar contract? Absolutely.
People overrate picks all the time - Philly also took on a major cap dump here.

Probably getting a top prospect, a first rounder, or moving up to 3

Or they just hated Provorov.

Mmm doesn't Provorov have negative value at this point with that contract? I thought he has been bad for a couple of years now.

When you are playing 24 minutes a night on a piss poor roster that's what will happen. Additionally - he's coming at a 4.7M caphit here, not 6.7M.

Would have made sense if LA was acquiring Provorov. Why are they helping Columbus with retention?

It's 30% retained so he's a 4.725M cap hit. BUT he makes $8.5-8.6M over the next two years so 70% of that is still a big cash outlay for him. $6M cash per season.

Oh yeah missed that. Still, seems a bit weird from Columbus since they haven't exactly had the best experience with Russians.
