There's no way there is direct funding from the Province, I have to think they found a way to fund some of the indirect costs (ie Green Line or something) of related infrastructure.

If there are Provincial dollars then you can effectively double the amount as the true cost to Alberta tax payers as the Province will need to find a way to spend that same amount on something in Edmonton now.

Smith is there to veto any solar panel requirements.

So how does this work if there is a change in provincial leadership? Is there risk that the deal gets scrapped?

The Flames are moving in to a Best Buy? That makes perfect sense!

An arena isn't though. Really is it that much of a benefit. Are people not going to spend money on other forms of entertainment or products in Calgary? Instead of going to a game a family of four goes out for other forms of entertainment probably 5 or 6 times.

I don't think anyone wants them gone I just don't want want public money to prop up billionaires.

You'd think not, at least not without significant penalty. Contracts are contracts.

Anyway, I doubt Notley would anyway, unless it's a really stupid deal.

I would say this is my greatest anxiety when it comes to the province being involved. This sort of promise would look better in June.

I don't care about the politics of Smith being involved as if the province is footing some of the bill it's nothing but good news to me. The Dome is a dump and this city needs a new arena end of story. For all I care, Justin can come too if he's willing to chip in.

I'd prefer "Bus Tits Barn" myself.

Doesn’t bother oilers fans since we have already had to subsidize the flames in revenue sharing.

I'll reserve most of my outrage until 3:30. If the UCP is directly giving money for a build, I'll be super pissed off.

Wonder if the UCP was smart enough to be sneaky about it and give them the money under the guise of transit.

It will be partially paid off by sick Albertans when they have to pay out of pocket.

It's kind of nice to think that some sick Edmontonian with gonorrhea will help fund the new Flames Arena!

I'm guessing the province is going in at 50% of the cost.
