Through working relationships I know some people quite well out there, and yes, they are quasi-hippyish, but also have a massive anti media government type of trust. To be fair most of these people have some sort of relationship with the mill out there. Drive around Gibsons back roads and you will see that rual you-can't-tell-me-what-to-do vibe you see everywhere else.

Definitely not. Where I live on Vancouver Island is very similar: lots of blue collar forestry and mining workers who are very right wing, and have fallen quite far down the modern conspiracy rabbit-hole. Resembles rural Alberta in a lot of ways (and a lot of these guys work in oil/gas and commute). Another way to put it: the ratio of pickups to regular cars is about 2 to 1.

Anyway, this guy moved away from Powell River in like 2003 or something when he was quite young, so he wasn't radicalized there.

Man I got no love for Pelosi and think she's am opportunistic ghoul, but the rightwing news media trying to put a homophobic tryst angle on the whole thing is incredibly gross.

Anything but admit that the rhetoric breeds violence I guess.

You mean Maxine Waters telling George Floyd protesters they should get more confrontational doesn't count?

Might want to get out of your echo chamber. Where does it say this individual identified as a Democrat or any political party? If anything, he identified as a mentally ill individual who was intent on killing himself but trying to make a name for himself before offing himself.

https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/n...ett-kavanaugh/

The guy was mentally ill and was upset about Uvalde, something that 60% of the nation upset enough over to demand stricter gun controls.

https://www.npr.org/2022/06/09/11036...-buffalo-biden

It was this driver and Kavanaugh's probable support of the minority to impose lesser restrictions on gun control that pushed this mentally ill individual to do what they did. It should be noted the guy was distraught about what he was doing that he called the authorities on himself!

https://news.yahoo.com/nicholas-john...192513186.html

Yeah, a real criminal mastermind there with serious intent on doing harm. So firm in his conviction that he dimed himself out then plead no contest to the charges. False equivalency is false. Still waiting to see a left-wing militia, or left-wing media suggesting shooting those who disagree with their point, or rioting at the counting of ballots that would determine a President, or then assaulting the capitol in attempt to stop the certification of a legal election, or then trying to hang the sitting Vice President, Speaker of the House, and other members of congress.

Corporatejay, take the L and perhaps rethink where you get your news sources from. They seem to steer you away from reality.

Over the past decade, the Anti-Defamation League has counted about 450 U.S. murders committed by political extremists.

Of these 450 killings, right-wing extremists committed about 75 percent. Islamic extremists were responsible for about 20 percent, and left-wing extremists were responsible for 4 percent.

To suggest there is any kind of equivalency here is ridiculous. Domestic terrorists on the right are heavily fomented by politicians/media on that side of the spectrum, not in all cases but certainly far, far more than anything coming from the left.

But telling people who are protesting getting killed by police to get more confrontational is totally the same as attacking the Capitol to overturn an election and try and hang the VP who didn't overturn the election for you. Both sides.

the GOP primaried him after he took the position, based on analyzing the facts, that there was no fraud in Florida.

Just over a week left before the midterm elections, which means the Dems have brought Obama out for the last week of campaigning.

A couple months ago, the Democrats had 71% odds or so of winning the majority in the Senate but that has dropped 20 points to 51% now. They need Obama to boost enthusiasm at the polls or it'll be a bad 2 years for them.
