I'm amazed they can stay in tact and explosive underwater after all those years. I would have thought all the boomy bits would just turn to neutralized mush, but I guess I don't know the chemistry of it.

The boomy bits are inside a fair bit of solid iron shell. For as long as the iron is in-tact and not rusted through, the boomy bits remain dangerous: dry and ready to go. Steel pipes sit on top of the ocean bed for decades and remain intact.

I've never been a really huge fan of hers, but I've learned that I can't deny her sheer level of talent.
Actually I'd say she's kind of a perfect example that no matter how much effort you put into what you do, no matter how hard you practice, no matter how deep you get into theory and history, if you ain't got it you ain't got it.

Her music is still so mediocre.
Because she can't write it. But you can be great - even all-time great - at one aspect of music without needing to be great at all of them. I don't really care if Itzhak Perlman can write a violin concerto that's worth listening to, or if Pavarotti can write an opera. When it comes to Lady Gaga, I've always thought of her as a great performer first and foremost. And hey, here's proof if proof were needed - she's performing someone else's music, and it still looks like an amazing show. And I don't even like Metallica. At all.
So I'd say she's got it in spades, but the it that she's got is a different it than you appear to be concerned with.
