I'm fine with games played by the player. Not many NHL teams would mess with a prospect in that manner.
It also would suck huge for a team if a rookie got injured in game 8 and had to stay on the roster which took them over that 10 or 15 games played by the team forcing them to use the 1st ELC year. It is fine the way it is.

Blues did that two seasons in a row with Pietrangelo.
He turned out ok.

Exceptions don't make the case. Plus, his junior teams probably didn't appreciate having him for 36 and 25 games respectively. Maybe it was a reason he was traded before his last year in junior.
I still think it's crappy for the player and his junior team.

Don't you worry, the Oilers will ruin him.

Well it's the only example of a team doing that that I can think of so it will have to do to make the case.
I don't see it being crappy for the player. They get to make NHL money and practice with NHLers and play a few NHL games.
Not good for the junior team agreed, especially if they are a weaker team that is relying on that player to help them make the playoffs.

Why would a team ever do that and wreck a year of development for one of their prospects?

FWIW the reason would be financial. And there's an example just above (which worked out). But I agree, it's not a good idea.

So, not to derail completely, but a fun history behind this (which you may or may not already know):
This clip is from a Belgian (Dutch language) satirical Sketch show called In de Gloria “In the glory;”this clip is from a sketch where a famous talk show host looks back on the moment that “got him fired.” One of the interviewees has a comically high, squeaky voice due to a failed tonsillectomy, and the guy can’t contain his laughter.
I grew up in Belgium until I was 11, and Tom Van Dyck (playing “Erik Hartman,” the host) was a legend on Belgian tv. Some US networks picked up the skit a while back and thought it was actually real.

Thanks for this! I wondered what the premise of the skit was and it was bugging me.

Edmonton is considering firing Eskimos head coach Jason Maas and their best player Mike Reily is an unrestricted free agent rumoured to be joining former GM Ed Hervey in BC.
Did I mention they were the only west team to miss the playoffs, yet most writers ( http://3downnation.com/2018/06/13/3d...l-predictions/) picked them to win the west?

There's the Oilers we all know and love. The Caps did a pretty good job in shutting Mcdavid down. PS. Lucic is a joke. Enjoy many more years with him Oiler fans.

Lucic is signed until 2023. That's such a long time, yet. So hilarious.

my aunt and uncle were over tonight for dinner and i had the caps/oil game on in the background.
of course, after the game i was grinning from ear to ear and my uncle asks, "so chris, what do you enjoy more.... an oilers loss or a canucks loss?"
i replied, "can't i love both?!?!"
ha! ha!
