Watch it be for less than we all expected. How many times since BT had been GM have we thought a guy was a great fit only to see him go for less than we speculated the cost would be to someone else. I will wait to see.

Potentially two picks involved. Sounds like it's not Sven but someone in the NHL. Maybe Jordie Benn? He seems to be on the outs in Vancouver. Or potentially Sutter/Beagle if it's someone more expensive.

Guess Friedman was right. Toffoli was not Plan A.
Also a rare miss for Lebrun.

Actually a pretty good guess... my immediate thought was one of the defensemen (Woo or Juolevi) but Madden might be more sought after.
My immediate thought was also that the player is probably Brandon Sutter because he makes about the same as Toffoli, but then, I had completely forgotten that Baertschi existed. So.

Glad the Toffoli talk can die down. This is not the year for the Flames to be spending assets.

Ericsson with an extra 1st?
Doubt Vancouver can get rid of him...

Canucks are desperate to make the playoffs, I believe they already traded a potential lottery pick in the JT Miller trade.

No, apparently the NHL player is Tim Schaller according to McKenzie, which... I don't understand how that makes the salary work, but OK.
EDIT: And Andy Strickland says the pick is indeed a 2nd. So if the Canucks make the playoffs they don't have a pick until rd 3 this year, which is... bad. One might even say "no good".

I would suggest adding JT Miller was a much bigger move than Toffoli for the Canucks.
Van has been treading water the last little while much like the Flames, so i think this is a response to that.

Toffoli wasn't going to make us a legit threat in the playoffs. Vancouver is under the illusion that they can do something in the playoffs so let them spend assets.
We should be thinking about re-tooling for next season. We don't have it this season.
I think back to when St. Louis traded Shattenkirk when they were battling for a playoff spot and then traded Stastny the next season when they were in a playoff spot. That's where we need to be, Treliving has to take an honest assessment of this team and see that they aren't going to get it done, and look towards next season.

I agree.
With that said though. 40 years, 1 cup, one cup run, and 38 years of mediocrity. I’m okay with a trade. If only for the the excitement of it all.

I can see the Canucks sending the 2021 1st and being conditional. Probably more than any 2nd other teams offered.

Odd. Schaller doesn't make much ($1.9 million). Canucks don't have a ton of cap space.

Sounds like Schaller, a 2nd round pick, a prospect, and potentially another pick.
