Default 2019 Blue Jays Season Thread

With opening day today, we might as well have a season thread.
Blue Jays start the season at 1:30pm against the Tigers today.

Many veterans including Martin, Tulowitzki, and Morales have found their way out of Toronto, giving way to the youth movement. Probably going to be a long year, but baseball is back

Go Jays Go

Only 6 players still around from 2018 opening day. Pillar, Smoak, Maile, Grichuk, Stroman, and Sanchez.

Quite the surgery. And by seasons end most of those guys will probably have new homes too.

This looks like one of the worst squads they have ever put out there. Understandable with a real rebuild underway, but this looks to be a very very long season.

Im guessing a 67-95 record. 35 games behind the Yanks.

That's where my head was at as well. I had the over/under with my friends at 70 wins. It will be a development year and a long one at that, but at least we don't need to slurp the Kool-Aid this year. Everyone knows that they will not be in competition for the playoffs and it's about growing and setting up for years to come...hopefully

I'm going to the game on August 11th against the Yankees and will have to decide whether to watch the whole game or leave after about the 7th so I make it to the arena before the doors open for SummerSlam. With the way the roster looks that decision will probably be an easy one.

This team is going to suck something fierce unless they are somehow greater than the sum of their parts and/or have some young players really take a step forward.

Even if that happens they are still stuck in a division with a young up start Rays team and two of the top teams in baseball.

Ah well. I'm still pumped for the start of the season and for a chance to watch the young players hopefully improve.

It's also the season for Vladdy to arrive. Hopefully he lives up to the hype.

The roster looks so bad, I'm tempted to cancel my Sportsnet through the summer.

It worked for the Canadiens this year. Cancelled my RDS subscription, they played really well!

Jack Morris throws out the ceremonial first pitch.

One of the best pitchers to ever play for this team...28 years ago.

Even today he might be able to start in this rotation of suckitude.

I did not expect this game to be 0-0.

Zimmerman has retired 18 straight Blue Jays batters on 55 pitches.

Biagini and Giles both strike out the side in their innings.

Would love a walk off home opener now.

Stroman looked awesome. Giles looked awesome. The bats did not!! But still awesome to have Jays baseball back, regardless of how bad they will be. I think Sanchez is gonna be great this year.

Just to touch on Giles, if he has the kind of year he is capable of the Jays could get a pretty good set of pieces for him at the deadline.

Also Tulo hitless in his opening debut.
