You guys are freaking awesome. Thanks so much for the primer episode list. I've seen nemesis but a) when it came out, and with b) no context, but I assume im aware of the parts you're referring to.

I'm definitely going to check out that episode list as well as re watch the movies first. Thanks so much.

The only thing you need to know from Nemesis is that Data sacrifices himself to save the Enterprise, and attempts to transfer his memory circuits to another Data-type android called B4. That’s about it, saves you two hours of suffering.

Also, watch this scene from Star Trek 2009, which is plot critical to Picard:

Wait...so Romulus was destroyed in Spock's day, but also Picard's? Am I missing some timeline stuff? Or are they just ignoring that they lived hundreds of years apart?

Vulcan lifespans are roughly double that of humans. Hell even Bones showed up for the Enterprise D’s launch, just goes to show how far you can get with decent medicine.

Spock was literally on two episodes of TNG. He's old.

Ah, ok. I don't remember much about TNG. I didn't realize it was only 100 years after the originals. I had kinda thought Scotty on the Dyson Sphere had been there for hundreds of years.

Spock will not be born on the planet Vulcan until the year 2230, by Earth reckoning. At the start of the U.S.S. Enterprise's first five-year mission under Captain James T. Kirk, Spock will be 35-years-old. When Spock travels through the artificial black hole he created in an attempt to protect Romulus from a supernova and enters into an alternative timeline, he will be 157-years-old.

Spock and Picard were in the same day.

To confirm, this Picard timeline is the same as TNG. The timeline from Star Trek 2009 (Chris Pine) isn't this universe, right?

Correct -- only that one specific scene I posted where Old Spock shows Chris Pine's Kirk the destruction of Romulus in the future takes place in the same timeline as all other Trek. The rest of that movie, along with Into Darkness and Beyond, are their own timeline altered by Nero traveling to the past.

So: Spock tries to save Romulus from a supernova, but Romulus is destroyed and Spock is presumed dead -- was the latest event in the "prime" timeline until Picard.

Wow, now THIS is a deep cut reference. Bravo to the composers. The theme comes from “The Inner Light.”

^ You know you’re a Trek geek when you know exactly what that episode is.

It was a favourite of mine.

Looking forward to catching up with Hugh. I am going to have to rematch I, Borg and Descent again.

But how would the virus be implanted on the Romulan crew? They could only be infected with the virus after they were assimilated. I don’t know if the Romulans would have even known about the virus that was created.

The virus was an "unsolvable geometric formula". Romulans in that room were all kind of messed up, one kept on playing with some kind of rubix cube and this was shown repeatedly (why waste screen time?)... Maybe Tal Shiar found some way to imprint that formula into the minds of those Romulans or something to that effect because the Romulans didn't have a convenient Borg drone like Hugh to imprint the virus onto.

Would also explain why these group of former Romulan Borg drones act for a lack of a better term "autistic" compared to other times former drones have been totally functional as individuals after they left the collective.

To be fair, we haven’t seen many of the other former Borg yet so they may also be quite squirrelly too. It does look like he virus that the Enterprise was supposed to infect the Borg with, but I didn’t think the Enteprordd went ahead with it. I thought Hugh caused his collective to disconnect from the hive because of his newfound individuality, as per Descent.

My theory is it’s all Data fault. Data knew they virus. Maybe Data’s positrons being spread around is what it wreaking havoc with robots and synths. It could explain the synth revolt and the Borg being infected with the virus - hmm - was that Romulan ship carrying some of Data’s code?
