It may be short sighted, but it's how we do things.
Before the injuries the insiders discussed Brodie being the chip they were shopping for the top 6 RW.

Which never made sense for a two team trade.

Whatever team was trading for Brodie as a UFA to be would be viewing him as a rental. Therefore, it was a team that was trying to win, and likely wouldn't be trading a top 6 forward to obtain a rental.

Now brodie could be flipped for a pick and the pick moved for a top 6 player with some term.

how many picks does the Knights have? it seems like they've traded 100 picks since they entered the league.

Not really, imo. Selling into the division when you're on the upswing or currently in your window is news worthy (and still happens quite a bit). Selling into the division when you're just starting to tear down with an expected window of 4-5 years out it's prudent to take the best deal in the league.

Treliving has traded with LA, Vancouver, AZ, Dallas and Edmonton in division. Also Dallas, Chicago and the Avs in conference. I don’t think he’s worried about going there, plus he probably knows their assets better.

I think the only time you really worry about those kind of things is when you trade a star, especially to a great situation. I wouldn’t trade JG to the Avs, for example.

With how weak the Pacific Division is, the Kings made the right move trading within the division. They have the Canucks' 2nd and the Knights' 2nd from the most recent trades, one of them that could very well be a high pick if one of the teams start to drop in the standings. If not, then they are still two good mid picks because of how well the Eastern Conference is doing.

Great asset management by LA.
