I would definitely entertain a Backlund for Dumba if that was on the table. I don’t see Backs waiving for the Wild though.
Dumba+9th overall
For
Gaudreau+19th
?

I'd pass on that one probably.
Gaudreau for Dumba + 9th? Sure, but the gap in value between Dumba and Gaudreau is not 10 draft spots, it is a good deal more.

2019/2020 Trade Speculation and Rumors 2.0
Backlund for Dumba probably doesn’t get it done. We’re likely taking about Monahan. In either scenario, we‘re pillaging an area of weakness to address an area of relative strength. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Why is Minny trading assets for two years of Gaudreau?

I don't understand the question. Are you saying Gaudreau's contract makes him untradeable, or that Minny wouldn't trade for him?

Like most - not a fan of moving the 1st this year for Keumper. Or moving a first at all. But if they are going to do that - would try to make it next year's pick instead, lottery protected.

Ok, here's my Minny trade.
Devin Dubnyk (one year of tandem with Rittich/nice big chip on his shoulder)
Ryan Donato (potential top six centre/being jerked around by Coach Evanson for some reason)
Adam Beckman (AHL league leading scorer/expendable because Boldy and Kaprizov are coming)
9th overall (sure I'll take Askarov or Lundell)
for
Sean Monahan (exactly what Minny is looking for)
19th overall (bye Jarvis)
Then trade Gaudreau for a bag of pucks, just because you can. HAHAHAHAH

I am saying why would Gaudreau sign an extension with a middling team like Minny that is nowhere near home for him when he can go UFA and choose a team much closer to winning or being close to home. I don't see why he would stay in Minny.

Not disagreeing with you necessarily, but how much do you think playing for the Knights props up his stats? He's not a young guy anymore....

I am absolutely all over getting Beckman. You want a #1 C? There he is.
Id rather go Gaidreau for Dumba Beckman and 9th OA. Thatd work great for.me.

That's true, but something similar can be said about a team like Jersey, or NY-we don't know if he would stay there either. I was just adding to the discussion a few posts before mine.

But obviously we disagree on where goaltending ranks on the list of 'problems' to fix.
My personal preference is to wait until the music stops and get the best bargain still available. Use the savings to facilitate another improvement (even if it means taking back a short-term bad deal).

Perhaps we could at the very least anticipate a first coming back in whatever trade goes down for Gaudreau...

Generally i think that's a bad idea.
You've got a firm grasp on what pick you're dealing with this year.
You can lottery protect the pick for 2021 but if it's a lottery pick you have to give up next years pick automatically...which could be a disaster.
Always better to deal a known quantity than be leveraged in a situation where you're compelled to give up a pick you may not want to, or a pick that's in limbo that prevents you from doing a move that falls into your lap.
This is what happened to the Flames with the Jokinen trade. Foolishly decided to defer the pick from the Erixon draft to the following year which ended up being 13th overall. Phoenix ended up picking Gormley that year but players like schwartz, tarasenko, hayes, kuznetsov and brock nelson were all still on the board in the first round and the Flames didn't end up picking until Reinhart in the 3rd round.

Dumba has a good shot and some nice offense but Flames are still lacking a true #1 elite pp quarterback.

I don't think Leverage is at play here.
Dumba is a sought after commodity.
