I could see Konecny, Gostisbehere, and a pick for Gaudreau. Not ideal but that is something I can see.

If the Flames make a Gaudreau to Philly trade, I would for sure bet on Ghostisbehere being the cap that comes back. He fits a need for the Flames even with his warts, and he's dropped down on the Flyers depth chart.

If it comes down to a choice between taking back JVR and Voracek, you take Voracek. Even at that cap hit. He is hands down the better player in any way, shape or form. And he plays the right, which is an organizational weakness of Calgarys. As the OP mentioned, a lot of the top prospects in the Flames system are left wings. With a smaller return, I think that the Flyers would be able to retain some cap.
Jacob Voracek (1M retained) + Morgan Frost + Phillipe Myers
for
Johnny Gaudreau
I would also add that I think a lot of Kylington. He may play better on the right side, as that was his natural side in every year except this last one. Those items straight up for Johnny would be a great trade, and Philly could absorb it easily, given the progression of Sanheim and Farabee.

Oh good. Because I was worried this was just gonna be like the other 10 trade threads.
Thank goodness for you.

He makes way more sense then JVR or Voracek.

The only way it makes sense to trade Gaudreau is if they are signing another high end winger like Hall to replace him. If they do that then they can't afford to take any (or very little) cap back and will need to trade Gaudreau for futures. Swapping out Gaudreau for Voracek or JVR makes the Flames a worse team, adding a prospect to balance the trade just ensures that we will be a middling team, as usual, for several more years.

I think that this is actually an interesting idea. By going through one team at a time, you can actually get a better view of what is available. The other threads are all over the place with all teams at once.
I'd actually be interested in a summary at the end of the experiment, followed immediately by a locking of the thread.

I think it is a non-starter for the Flames to have to take back a crap contract like VVR. Gaudreau is an elite player on a very good contract, there is no way we should have to take an anchor back (unless it comes attached to a ridiculously good haul of prospects).
Having JVR and Lucic on the books would be terrible cap management

Ok, here goes...
Gaudreau (6,750,000 AAV)
Kylington (787,500 QO)
for
Konecny (5,500,000)
Ghostisbehere (4,500,000)
2020 2nd (54th overall)
Flames get the Flyers 2nd for taking on extra cap.
Flyers:
Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Gaudreau - Hayes - Farabee
Lindblom - Frost - JVR
Laughton - Patrick - Raffl
Provorov - Niskanen
Sanheim - Myers
Hagg - Kylington
Hart
Flames:
Hall - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Bennett - Konecny
Mangiapane - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Ryan - XXXXX
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Ghostisbehere
Valimaki - XXXXX
Talbot

NJ seems like a good trade partner. They have multiple 1sts in a deep draft and have cap space. Gettings 7th overall for Johnny would be a good start for a package. There's no way they would consider moving either Hischier or Hughes for Gaudreau though. They'd be bringing Gaudreau in as an elite playmaker to pair with either Hughes or Hischier. They then have 2 full years to convince Johnny to re-sign... which shouldn't be a problem considering their cap space and NJ being VERY close to where Johnny grew up

What are his top 3 teams?
Philly
Boston
Rangers
??
Or do teams like Tampa, Nashville or even Carolina sneak in there possibly?

ROSTER SIZE 16
SALARY CAP $81,500,000
CAP HIT $75,839,166
OVERAGES $0
BONUSES $457,500
CAP SPACE $5,660,834
I used wishful thinking and put Hall in at 8M/per, that leave 5.6 million to sign:
Mangiapane
Talbot
+3 forwards
+2 defencemen
Mangiapane and Talbot alone will eat up most of that 5.6M
I keep saying it but if they sign Hall and trade Gaudreau they can't take back cap.

The OP started a focused thread with a thoughtful premise and ideas.
Always room for that

$8.5M sitting on the 4th line. Treliving should be fired for just that alone.

If Gaudreau ends up going to the Flyers, JVR cannot be the main piece coming back. That just screams another James Neal situation to me.
The Flames have very few playmakers on this team, so if the team if getting rid of their top playmaker (top 10 in league), the Flames better end up with something better than another one dimensional trigger man.

Maybe move Ryan for picks, although there probably wouldn't be many (if any) teams banging down that door.

Good, plausible proposal, N26. But if I’m Fletcher Jr, I balk at moving Myers. It has taken the Flyers years of patient drafting and development to put together a decent defence, and moving Myers leaves a gaping whole in their RD that they’ll have to make another trade to fill. It would be like the Flames losing Anderson.

Is Frost really THAT good? Like he obviously has talent but I think he gets overrated. His AHL season was good but not terrific, and he wasn't great in the NHL. Fantastic junior numbers in his draft +1 and +2 years but we've seen lots of busts do that. His professional play is pretty good right now but nonetheless I think he is valued higher than he should be. I'd personally value Farabee over Frost. Higher pick, younger, more professional success.
