I was wondering whether Gio was going to win this award.
Seems a bit overdue.

Congrats to Gio, he deserves it.

The Flames have many problems in the past 20 years, but but a lack a of great captains have never been one if them.

Considering Messier picks this by himself, it’s a bit of a smack to the Oiler fan base, who absolutely hate Gio.

It has been awarded 14 times and Gio is the second Flame to win it (Iggy won it in 2009). The Predators are the only other team with 2 winners (Weber in 2016 and Simmonds last year).

An Oiler has never won the award (Hey Connor, it's a Mess).

Congrats to Gio! Silly award or not, being recognized for something like this shows his leadership and community involvement and that there's people out there who want to recognize this. Say what you want about his play on the ice, but nobody can ever doubt he's a solid human being and the city of Calgary is better with him than without them.

Congrat to Gio for winning the worst named award in Hockey. Most players would rather win the Lady Byng than anything named after an Oiler.

It's an award I often talk trash about, but a win is a win, congrats Gio

Very deserving. Gio is THE consummate professional and always leads with his work. That’s how it should be. If I’m a player, watching your captain battle hard each and every night and never cheat his team, that’s the type of leader I’d go to war with.

Awesome captain, player and human. Very much deserved. I also think that despite his age and him playing below his capabilities during the season and the playoffs, he'll come back whenever next season is and be back to his usual form and his play from his Norris winning season.

Yeah Gio is great, but this "award" is a joke.

My favourite part of his speech on accepting it was recognizing he learned from Jarome. We have been blessed with 2 of the best captains I’ve ever witnessed when it comes to on the ice and off of it. We may have had mediocre teams. But having 2 elite captains is something we shouldn’t be taking for granted.
