“Heck bring in the entire Stockton Heat forward group. Would it really be a downgrade at this point?”
Hmmm.
That one was completely over the top.

Mr. Hanifin is in the back row, two to the left of Keith Tkachuk.
Met him last night. Great guy.

Or it was obvious hyperbole? I wouldn't even know what to say to someone who took that comment literally.
Without the hyperbole, the comment reads "In the first 3 games of this series, the Flames forward group hasn't been playing nearly well enough. The time to pull up their socks is now, if they hope to win this series."
If you want to pick on someone, pick on the people who were calling for the team to let Johnny walk in the offseason, trade Chucky, and start a rebuild.

Coleman?
Tkachuk?
Lindholm? not without 13 feeding him
He's the straw that stirs the drink. Take away an ENG and a 5 on 3, our offense has been Gaudreau and Trevor Lewis.

From every perspective (losing an asset, who gets points, who stirs the drink etc) you have to sign Gaudreau.
Gaudreau is a lost superstar asset, that alone carries a huge bias towards signing him if he's willing. Tkachuk returns a package or star. You sign Gaudreau if he's willing, 100%.

I don't necessarily disagree, but there are some cautionary tales (moreso the asset argument than superstar argument):
TOR ended up with a decent return for Kessel, but they've been paying him 1.2M AAV through the best years of their competitive window.
NAS has been overpaying older+inconsistent guys and will probably end up losing a more complete 27 yo player. It's not a disaster, but it's interesting to wonder how else it may have played out.
On the other hand, NYI got better after losing Tavares for nothing. 2 POs and 1 series win in his last 4 years. 3 POs and 5 series wins (+ play-in rd win) in the 4 years since.
The best examples of the "maybe it'll work eventually" plan working are WAS and STL. Both teams had significantly more previous playoff success, but perhaps more importantly neither team had 1st round exits anything like our ANA/COL series (aside from STL getting swept in 2009; Steen and Perron the only common denominators to the cup team)

Probably stating the obvious, but yesterday's win was a big step -- possibly the biggest -- to re-signing both Johnny and Matthew long term.
But that's something to worry about later. We've got business to take care of on the ice.

I do think that playoff success is and will be a consideration for both Tkachuk and Gaudreau. That game yesterday and winning the series was for sure a new level and experience for the whole team really, a lot of younger players who are still trying to win it all.
Plus in a 32 team league only half make the playoffs and now down to 8 teams, both our players showed last night they can perform in big games as well as the regular season. We’ll be talking about this game for a long time.
And with Johnny, he’s already amongst the best in Flames history so that could really make him want to stay and play his whole career here, same with Tkachuk. It’s a good situation here for both of them if they decide to stay which I think they will. Winning is what’s it’s all about and they’ll still get paid.

Might as well sign Johnny Buttonhook at this point. He won't win them many playoff games but he's one of the few reasons fans will pay to watch next year.
He's the straw that stirs the drink but the drink stinks!
Unfortunately Tkachuk has shown over the past couple of seasons that he is not worth his asking price.

Let them both go. I’m over every player on this roster. Tank for Bedard.
