Yep. Silver lining to OAR's win is that it keeps us (and Norway) in that tie.

Thank you PyeongChang for a wonderful Games!

What a spectacular Closing Ceremony.
Can anyone really see the Stampede Grandstand displaying anything like that?

Didn't think so.
2026 bid needs to include a modern, multi-purpose Olympic Stadium.

McMahon probably could. That stadium is only $75 million and is getting demolished (after about 10 hours of use). It's probably a comparable experience to McMahon up close other than the size and shape of the field, and the LED/projector tech.

And even in a down year, Carey Price has proven to be a brick wall in international competition, and there are many others having very strong years to choose from.

Not to mention, Russia has done nothing in best on best international competition for the last 15 years to show they are capable of even medaling, never mind getting Gold.
While I agree in general, Russia won silver at 1998 Olympics and also knocked out Canada at 2006 Olympics.

Yeah I said 15 years. Nagano was 20 years ago now. Since then they've struggled to even play for medal in any best on best tourney.

Anyways the Russians had a clear advantage for this tourney, kudos to them for taking advantage of it.

Long-time CPers may remember my account of ending up in the middle of siberia with no money after getting pick-pocketed in Mongolia, and the Russian people I encountered were absolutely amazing in making sure that I was able to get safely back to Moscow. There may be more corruption than other countries and societies, but that doesn't change the fact that the for the most part people there are good people, just as they are everywhere.

It was a weird selection of acts chosen. CL and EXO are not my favorites so I'm biased :P

That's an odd argument to make considering the stadium in PyeongChang was built as cheaply as possible; will host 4 events in its entire existence; and will be torn down after the Paralympics are over. If anything, they've shown that you don't need to build a stadium that will stand the test of time.

That said, if the choice is between spending $100 million to build a temporary structure that will look good four times, or spending $200 million or more to build or upgrade a stadium that can serve Calgary for years, I'd rather the latter.

Yeah, the needs of a city of 1.3M and a county of 45k are rather different.

Just watching the ceremony now, that 13 year old kid is shredding on guitar. So good.
