To me the 2nd picture in that Tweet is far more damaging. Leaving your pregnant wife and daughter alone while your house is being repossessed to go party in Europe, she has to sell her wedding ring to buy formula, 1 year old daughter wandering around the house asking where dada is. If even half of that is true Kane is a total piece of ####, and I'd be embarrassed to have him represent my city. I would hope that the Sharks would be able to terminate his contract over this, but given that he's their best player that probably won't happen

Gambling addictions are no joke. Regardless of what you think of the player on the ice, this is still a guy who is struggling off the ice.
Some of the comments on here are downright ignorant.
People need to listen again, and many times, to the stories of Akim, Evander, Dumba, Iginla, et al, and the #### they went through growing up in hockey, their home lives, and realize that the sterilized version you think you know about them isn't who they are and what they've had to deal with.
Have a little compassion. Maybe the same compassion a few of you seem to have for Jack Johnson, a white guy. There is very little information about what is going on with Kane, but there is a lot of terrible conclusion jumping going on in this kinda gross thread.
|
I don’t think any of the comments have anything to do with race

Maybe you, as a person who wants to be open minded and fair, should take my comments at face value and evaluate rather than just getting defensive?
I have no real stake in this game. I am not trying to piss people off. I am commented on what I felt was and is going on in this thread.
If you want to get pissed off at what I said, maybe it's because you aren't open to that conversation. Which is fine. But ask yourself why you aren't? Instead of getting upset that it may need to happen. Because conversations on race and our society need to happen regularly, in my opinion.
Edit: I am responding directly to Scroopy, but am unfairly pigeon holing him with this reply. I haven't deleted because I believe that I made a mistake here and I apologize later. But I wanted to keep the original post up for clarity.

Don’t think anyone was pissed off. They just didn’t agree with you on the racism overtones.

Seriously, what the ####. I understand that perhaps it wasn't meant as a "oh haha look at that monkey with a banana phone" overt racist ####baggery, but this is still racism as it is casually dismissed as "nothing". It's really simple, don't make banana-monkey, slavery, cotton, or other historically charged related jokes about black people. End of ####ing discussion.

How does a thread about an ass#### losing all his money turn into an indictment of racism?
This thread makes zero sense.

Yeah I'm not sure I believe that he bets on his own games. I mean it wouldn't surprise me his gambling addiction runs that deep. But weird that his ex would write something like that, when clearly the main issue (based on what's written) is that he's a deadbeat dad who isn't taking care of his family.
I'm sure the NHL's "investigation" will turn up blank. But looks like it's going to get messy for him in family court if he doesn't smarten up.

There is nothing to do with race in any of this…..Evander Kane clearly has some addiction issues and hope he gets the help he needs. But to link all of his actions and behaviour to race issues would be very disappointing.

Calling someone an ahole really isn't racist, nor condemning a person for abandoning a wife and kid while he blows money partying in Europe.
Nor is calling Kane trash.
This feels like its been building for a while with Kane. We heard about it in Winnipeg. I doubt the team is going to be all that concerned with rallying around Kane. He is probably going to get investigated 10 ways from Sunday, not only by the NHL. But I wouldn't want him on the Flames.
I doubt that all of his debt is with "reputable" lenders, and there's probably more debt that's not on paper. Even with his NHL contact, Casino's are linked as they look at deadbeats and cheaters. So I'm betting there are some off the book bookmakers that have his name in a little book, that are interested in having discussions with him on where their money is. But because the spotlight is on him, they can't just shoot him in the head and ram his body into a chemical barrel.
Kane has responded as well this morning.

I figured they were probably going through a divorce. People do ####ty things during divorces. I’m sure there’s probably truth on both sides of the fence but I doubt he was betting on and throwing his own games.
Whoever isn’t being truthful in this scenario will probably pay for it in their divorce proceeding. Without knowing either party and just reading both statements my guess would be that Kane isn’t the most upstanding citizen and probably has some substantial issues. But his ex probably went to far to hurt him.
In the end I really feel sorry for the kid to be honest.

When he came "clean" this Spring I figured he had finally come around. Clearly it was more of a P.R. piece than anything.

he as an odd duck on the Jets. I remember i saw them in Banff after I played a beer league tourney. They were doing dryland in the parking lot for their pre-season training. 2 players stood out. One tried way too hard and all the players snickered at him. 1 dragged ass and bitched, and the team laughed their heads off.
The one who tried too hard was Kane. The one who bitched and moaned about the running was Byfuglien.

Not surprized, someone posted on HF that he saw Byfuglien recently and guessed he was well over 300lbs.

A lot of these rich athletes marry gold digger trophy wives based on looks and looks alone. Not surprisingly many of them end up in messy divorces.

I maintained back then that Buff was a problem, especially in his treatment of Kane. He exacerbated the problems.

No wonder that teams sucks. There's no such thing as trying too hard in the NHL.

Not all.
But many, probably. Can you blame them? Men are visual in nature and that type of attention from attractive women is hard to turn down. As a young guy with money, you probably don't know better either, and haven't yet refined what qualities in a mate are important to you yet. If you jump in early cause you're intoxicated with her looks and get hitched, well that's that.
People getting offended at the suggestion might want to put themselves in the shoes of a millionaire teenager with fame and honestly say they wouldn't be inclined to make the same kind of mistake.
Do you know how many gen-z women crave the sort of attention that comes with being the spouse of a celebrity, with how prominent social media is today? A lot, whether they'd admit it or not.
Not to say it's good or healthy, but that's what it is. Many of our priorities are very backwards and superficially based these days.

Kane refused to wear the team agreed upon shirt and khakis/dress pants to gatherings. He showed up for another one in a tracksuit and the rest is history.

But the implication here is that beautiful women are shallow and materialistic. It is the very definition of a stereotype.
