Hey now... you keep Mr. Wick out of this.

The first one was amazing but 2 and 3 were meh. And that’s being generous. They took a great concept with mysterious lore and just beat it to death. It worked better when the lore was there but unexplained. Once the movies became about the lore, it lost some of the allure. Just like Boba Fett or countless prequels, sometimes things are best left unexplained and to the viewer’s imagination.

I completely agree. I thought 2 was pretty bad and gave up halfway through the third one

I wouldn’t say they’re bad per se but the films have progressed more and more toward big blockbuster style event movies as opposed to the relatively lower budget stylings of the original.

This needed and deserved 5x the budget.

Travesty that such a great concept fell into incompetent hands

Meanwhile I'm readying my body for the next soon to be public domain turned horror:

No one. That’s why 2 and 3 sucked. They went from revenge movies to assassin guild politics with violence.

Calm down djs. All I was saying was they’ve progressed into a big budget franchise. Save the unchecked aggression for FoI.

Oh wow you know my former handle.. the horror.

When the hook of the franchise is "grungy" gun-foo action, I don't think you can go wrong with an increased budget.

Now the films haven't gotten any more interesting in terms of story, but the action sequences certainly haven't gotten any worse.

BTW didn't I read you threatened to retire again? Do you not have a new handle teed up yet?

You're the kind of director that starts shooting the sequel before the previous film is in the can.

Threaten? Lol.

That's the best kind of director.

When you know you #### gold so you don't even have to wait for the box office returns to lay down the next cash cow saga.

Evidently anything I'd pump out you'd shell out your money for since you pay such close attention to my activity. Even when you hate, you find it riveting.

Meanwhile I don't even know who you are.

Yes poor choice of words on my part. I was hoping it was more of a promise than a threat.

I'm joking but only sort of. Yeah it was totally unserious and silly and over the top and corny and completely ridiculous with a great deal of hammy, questionable acting but... who cares, that was just far too much fun.
Watched RRR with my wife and 11 year old daughter. I have to say, that was a fun ride. I jokingly suggested it based on the reviews here on CP. The family called my bluff and we went for the ride. Took us 3 sittings to finish it (3+ hours). I did not expect to like it but I did. Terrific visuals, music, choreography, etc. Just a well done if not silly production. Fun.

That's two goofy movies recently that I've recommended here, EEAAO being the other. I used to be a serious, pretentious movie watcher lol. What is going on? Anyway, check it out.

3.5/5

I don't mind Keanu, great guy and I guess he's a decent actor despite Bram Stoker's Dracula. Those type of movies are just so boring to me, I'll tolerate extended fight scenes, car chases and ridiculous shootouts in a decent film but that's all those movies are. Maybe not as bad as Fast & Furious but the 2nd movie was tough to get through.

Just read that the upcoming 4th movie is going to have a 3 hour runtime, yikes.

Yes, definitely this.

I've said this before, but John Wick...the original, I think is the closest thing that exists to a 'Perfect' Action movie.

Just everything about it was excellent.

After that however, I feel like it went a little 'LOST.'

"Oh CRAP! People are loving this! We gotta tell more story!"

- "But...we told our story tho..."

"Then MAKE MORE STORY AND TELL THAT THEN!!"

That's the crux of my argument on why TV shows are a waste of time. They rarely know if the pilot will be picked up, if so they scramble to write episodes. If picked up for a 2nd season they hire an entirely new group of writers to cobble together some nonsense. It's always a waste of time and turns into a mess.

A standalone film with a single writer/director or a team where the project is their life's work is always more authentic, cohesive and quite simply better.

Yes not always 100% but a good majority of the time that is what happens. I've gone off on this tangent before and hardy anyone agrees with me, people love their TV shows.

really good TV can be just that, really good. But writ large the medium for me rarely hits the same heights as film. Generally speaking TV is more of a way to spend time, I engage with it WAY different than I do movies. But also I engage with cinema differently than most folks.
