Don't get me wrong, I'm over it, and I have accepted the name, but it just reeks of someone from Toronto saying "Hey, Calgary likes horses let's do that".

I'm telling you, the Cheddar Astronauts would have been awesome. It would have been on the complete other end of the spectrum from anything horse related. The best part is that is has nothing to do with any Calgary sterotypes whatsoever!

When the owners of Canada's premier horse facility also own the team, in a city with a western heritage, then the name style was inevitable.
If I'm being perfectly honest, Winnipeg has the name I would imagine a Toronto suit coming up with. "Valour FC" just screams "Know nothing about Winnipeg's history, searched Wikipedia."
Though, I suppose we can count ourselves lucky that suit didn't name them the Winnipeg General Strikers.

Now, that being said, I'm not trying to argue Calgary's name isn't wrapped in corporate office decision making. In a league that is pushing the patriotism/nationalism angle hard, having two out of four teams pander to great war military history is pretty transparent.

Over 600 memberships sold and they're already sold out of merchandise. Just awesome!

Just had a 20 minute chat with Tommy. It sounds like Cavalry will be marketing themselves heavily during World Cup. If I know finalized info like dates and locations I'll let folks know.

Has anyone heard anything about a Red Deer team as a possibility?

Red Deer is absolutely a possibility down the line if CPL succeeds, likely as they move past 16 teams into a two division pyramid with promotion/relegation. But you'd need an owner with a lot of money, a 5-7k seat specific stadium, and a fanbase to fill it. I don't think any of those exist right now.
Also, expect the stadium to be tweaked from the mockup that was provided during the launch. I've seen a draft, and these tweaks are for the better.

I believe in the Jays.

I can't imagine a 2nd division being across the whole country. Maybe two second divisions split East and West.

Dude, seriously your persistent pessimistic M.O, is tiring. You're not going to to one of the games. We get it. You don't bring much other than #####t!ing on the league & sport.

Granted they'll be no good -- An Edmonton club is good for the Cavalry & for the league.
Happy to hear things are better at Clarke.

Did they take bets on how crappy they could make the logo look without people thinking it was a joke

That logo sucks.
Halifax and Calgary are the best ones. Calgary for its simple, effective design, and Halifax' logo is just plain awesome.

At what point do you run out of top talent though. Yes you can get a team started, but are there enough gifted players to fill the roster

The thinnest part of the bell curve is over in Europe anyways, making the talent level in this league less sensitive to the number of teams.

Sure but does Canada have 200 players who are upper echelon that aren't good enough to play in the MLS. I'm not sure we do and that's not to say we don't have 200 people. I'm saying 200 of the best of the rest if you see where I'm coming from. Over in England and Europe the talent pool is always going to be bigger because you're born into playing.
