Default Matt Cullen Retires After 21 Years

Quote:
PITTSBURGH — Penguins centre has retired after a 21-season career that included three Stanley Cup titles.

The 42 year-old won a Cup with Carolina in 2006 and then consecutive titles with Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017.

Cullen had 266 goals, 465 assists and 502 penalty minutes over 1,516 games with Anaheim, Florida, Carolina, the New York Rangers, Ottawa, Minnesota, Nashville and Pittsburgh. He also had 19 goals and 39 assists in 132 career playoff games.

Drafted 35th overall by Anaheim in 1996, Cullen's best statistical season came in Carolina's run to the Cup in the 2005-06 season, when he set career highs in goals (25) and points (49). He added 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 25 playoff games.

He had seven goals and 13 assists in 71 games with the Penguins this past season.

it was amazing how good and quick he was as recently as the 2017 cup final against the Preds.

Great long career, I always thought of him as this little quick skating guy but I accidentally met him a couple of years ago and was surprised that he wasn't a small guy at all.

Matt Cullen 3 Cups, Kris Draper 4 Cups. Threads like these always remind me of the bitterness that Iggy never got a Cup. Ugh.

I'm getting grumpier and grumpier each passing season that Iggy was not counted among the NHL 100 best.

End derail. Good job Matt Cullen, I guess.

cap friendly has his estimated career earnings at 35 million.

pretty good for a player I'd call a good hardworking journeyman.

Those don't really upset me. Now if you brought up Chris Dingman and his 2 cups, that's where I'm totally with you.

I always wanted him on the Flames. Quite the career he carved out. He seemed to get better with age. Just looke at his stats, and he played over 1500 games??? Holy F!!

Retire in Peace Matt.

Perfect middle sixer for basically the entirety of his career. Congrats Matt.

Only 3 guys left from the 90's. Marleau, Thornton, Chara.
