Beauty by Barzal. Islanders score 3 goals in 5 minutes as the Sabers are still terrible.

That's crazy. Could be the goal of the year right there.

Think coach will get fired after this game. Gm of Buffalo did not give him a vote of confidence in a presser yesterday.

Another candidate as Huberdeau pulled off the Mighty Ducks triple deke!

Panthers have now scored 4 straight to take a 4-1 lead late in the 2nd.

Team is looking gooooood. I'm not used to the Panthers playing consistently strong hockey, so I'm still not letting myself get excited until they're in the playoffs.

What changed there. Seems like something clicked for them.

Looks like Quenneville may finally be paying off. Also, Driedger has been giving them fantastic goaltending and it looks like they're able to give Bobrovsky enough run support on most nights.

They lost Dadonov and Hoffman but they added Hornqvist, Duclair, Verhaeghe, and Wennberg. Their depth looks to be much improved. Losing Matheson might have been addition via subtraction for them.

A few things. Some players like Ekblad are having big bounceback years. He's key to their success at both ends of the ice. But Huberdeau and Barkov have shown that they are part of the elite class in the NHL. Just dominant out there most nights.

But there have been key additions. Carter Verhaeghe was picked out of Tampa's organization for nothing, and he's been a big boost offensively. Hornqvist has been a strong addition as well, bringing veteran savvy and net front presence. Wennberg, Duclair, and even Luostarinen have filled out the middle six well.

Gudas has been a really strong pick up, doing heavy lifting in his own end defensively (He's a team leading +10 with just 2 points to his name). That's helped to fill out a defense group that is usually focused more on offense.

Chris Driedger has picked up where he left off last year and has been even better. He's slowly taking away the net from Bobrovsky, who hasn't been awful, but he still lets in enough soft goals that it frustrates you.

But really, nothing else other than I think Coach Q is finally getting through to these guys. They're committed to defense, and although they aren't great at it yet, they no longer bleed scoring chances and goals like they used to. Special teams have been pretty good as well, which speaks to coaching and systems.

But more than anything, the team attacks relentlessly. They lead the league in SOG/game at 34.7, a full shot above team #2. They have 4 lines that contribute goals all the time and they don't give up a lot of easy ones anymore. Simple as that.

Oof...Forsberg just took out Bobrovsky in his crease with a slight slewfoot. Hit the ground hard. Seems okay, but it looked bad in the moment.

All Frank Vatrano does is score goals.

Seriously. He has 8 goals and 2 assists. It's the only thing he does, and he's starting to do it on the regular.

5-2 Panthers.

Oh, and a fight! Cousins was brave enough to take on Gudas. Radko handles him easily.

Seriously, that dude is scary.

Bahahaha!!!

So the instigator penalty to Cousins results in a PP goal for the Panthers.

Noel Acciari with the hat trick!!!

This team is rolling.

6-2 Panthers. Look out NHL. Tied for 2nd overall in the NHL with Tampa.

edit: seriously, take notice. Just 4 regulation losses in 23 games. That's not an accident.

Okay, I'm getting excited now. I should know better.

Dark horse Cy Young winner? Has a bit of catching up to do on 13-3 Chris Kreider and 14-5 Tyler Toffoli.

I wish the NHL gave out silly awards like this. Could also have the Green Jacket for worst plus minus.

I mean, media could do it. I think more people pay attention to media over the official NHL awards.

Seriously, quick quiz, who won the Selke award last year?

Current Green Jacket leader Rasmus Dahlin was -1 today bringing him to -23. Next closest are Hughes and Mantha at -16.
