My son was on the ice for around probably no more than 20 including evaluations
Considering lacrosse kept 10% without even stepping on the floor I am assuming there are some administrative costs to address.

I was honestly expecting a smaller number but it does suck, particularly since we had to buy our own socks/practice jerseys this season. At least I got my coaches clinics paid for.

a ####ing load of B/S.

I am frantically typing up an email response.

With a 50% refund that works out to around $35/ice time for my boy (U15) this season.

Just out of curiosity, I googled for their (Knights) financial statements and found the following information:

Quote:
Income:
• Registrations: $958,558
• Tournament Income: $245,200
• Hockey/Player Development: $ 30,245

Expenses
• Facilities & Equipment (incl. Ice fees): $536,965
• Operational Expenses: $336,450
• Tournament Expenses: $213,762
• Contract Services (2 Staff): $ 69,575
• Hockey Development: $ 39,758
That has ice as 56% of registration fee revenue. Not sure what "Operational Expenses" would be though?

my son was on the ice 18 times over 7 weeks, which works out at $35/ice time once our association pays back 50% of the registrations ($1250)

What my boy plays Axemen.

We came from an association with with 6 teams total...........

I have a buddy on the board with Axemen, and I thought how they handled things last spring weren't bad considering the time (early pandemic).

LAX is starting to become a liitle competitive now. My son played with Elev8. He decided he was done since it was getting to competitive and he was doing it for fun and to learn a new sport (did for 7 yrs.) Elev8 is a great organization and the Snider’s run a great program but only if you plan on playing at a high level.

Cochrane hasn't processed the refunds yet, but in preliminary communications indicated that it would be less than a simple proration of cost/icetimes. They cited upfront costs, Eval costs and Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada Fees as the reasons.

Hockey Calgary posted a bulletin with the various fees (Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, and Hockey Calgary) and how much would be refunded from that portion. Roughly speaking about $53 of those fees will not be refunded. Some associations paid outside groups to conduct evaluations so those costs are probably not recoverable. Costs such as website/email/infrastructure management too I would guess.

Two items I do wonder about are CEWS for actual employees of MHA's and rent paid for office space. Not sure if MHA's are eligible for the rent reduction program or CEWS. Given their revenues theoretically did not decline (everyone paid their dues to play) can they claim CEWS for any employees? If those employees are actually on contract rather than payroll they might be stuck paying that too.

After that you could prorate out the refund based on ice time expected vs actually used.

Our association has shown a distinct lack of transparency on how it was calculated.

Further thee has been no mentioned of volunteer bond refunds.

GHC has been running silent and deep for a long time.

Our bond was cancelled for this season. Those of us that volunteered will get credit for next years bond. You guys have to pay the bond then it is refunded rather than the bond being claimed at the end of the season if the volunteering requirements are not met?

They released something last night.

55%, so there ends my girl's "career".

At least we accomplished our goal.

She loves the game and plans to continue playing through Uni and beyond.

Good for her UCB. Mine loves the game too and has kept playing. Check out SAWHA if she is interested in a formal league (ie beer league like a lot of us play).

That's fantastic that your daughter is going to keep playing. Minor hockey was good but for me the real fun came playing with my pals through my 20's and 30's. Some of the best times of my life.

UCB- just wanted to give you some kudos. That is an awesome goal and I wish more parents had that in mind as opposed to fame and riches for their kids. I was very fortunate to play the highest levels of hockey throughout my “career” and while I don’t have any major regrets and gained many useful tools, I am sad that I burned out far earlier in my beer league career than I would have liked. For me, playing for fun was only ok and my body broke down pretty quick after logging some hard miles.

I have a toddler daughter that is showing some interest in hockey and I really hope to instill in her that we play hockey for fun and stop playing if it ever isn’t fun. There is nothing better than stepping on a fresh sheet of ice, but it’s ok if it loses its luster and need to take a break.
