The sequel then takes in to account no actions of what actually happened in this trilogy.
Unless they go with only one ending, then all the Relays are destroyed so travel is impossible.
But I bet they'll do the "it was a long and hard couple of years, but after 5 years we were able to get the relays working again", or some BS.

i take it you haven't played the extended cut DLC. they expand on the endings and reveal that the relays aren't destroyed, just damaged. and if you take the synthesis ending the reapers actually help to repair them (maybe the same with the control ending, i can't remember)
after watching all 3 endings, it really seems likely that Bioware will use the control ending as canon

I've heard it claimed (by BioWare? In the EC? I forget) that the relays really are just damaged and eventually they get fixed. I can see this happening in Control and Synthesis because the Reapers are still around and (especially in Control) you can get them to help repair the relays.
They've already said a couple of times that ME3 was it for Shepard too.
Edit: Too slow. Pretty sure in the Control ending they fixed them too. I mean.. you control them, The Reapers will do whatever the hell you want.

If they picked the Destroy ending, then the relays would be useless for sure, since no one except the Reapers understand the inner workings of a Mass Relay...although I can't remember if there's a destroy ending where if you max out your EMS, it does minimal enough damage to recover?
Either way, they certainly went out of their way with extended cut to make sure we knew there was a chance the relays could still be used in both Control and Synthesis.

I don't see how a sequel could work out favourably for Bioware. People, including myself, complained that we had zero impact on how the series ended. So do they just pick an "ending" they liked and make that the official ending? Hey guess what? You didn't even really get to pick between a red, blue and green ending. They should just let this series sit for a while and go work on a new IP.

Next Mass Effect 3 DLC has 'all hands on deck'
by Steve Watts, Dec 05, 2012 7:30am PST
Mass Effect 3 has already had quite a few expansions, and the most recent title, "Omega," had a sense of finality to it. But BioWare isn't quite done telling Shepard stories yet, as the company apparently has a large chunk of its writing staff hard at work on the next one.
"It's all hands on deck for this one. Pretty much every Mass Effect 3 DLC writer here in Edmonton is involved," wrote BioWare's Jos Hendriks on the official forum (via Eurogamer). "If my math skills are correct [that means] eight."
That eight-person writing team is said to include lead writer Mac Walters. The Edmonton team itself is responsible for the Mass Effect Trilogy, just released yesterday (check out Andrew's field report).
Tweets have also revealed the involvement of chief composer Sam Hulick, and the voice actors behind Joker (Seth Green) and Kaiden (Raphael Sbarge). Whatever BioWare has up its sleeve, it has a larger writing staff and returning cast than previous pieces of DLC. That could indicate a grand finale, or setting the stage for whatever is coming next to the series.

Get the D&D license back and work on a new RPG set in a D&D campaign setting?

I played Mass Effect 3 first now I can't go back and play the first because the gameplay is garbage in comparison to the third.

Well that was dumb. Ruins the whole storyline if you play out of order.

Indeed. I got in to Mass Effect in 2010, a few years after the first one had come out. When I was standing in EB deciding whether or not to buy and play through the first game, or just skip straight to the second one (it had just come out), the guy working there rightly told me to have some bloody respect and play through the first one, otherwise I wouldn't be allowed back in the store. Best thing that ever happened to me.

That is among the most ridiculous things I've heard in a while. How does a retail employee say that? It's just a game, Christ.

Wouldn't count on it. They haven't done that with ME2 either. EA will keep charging the full amount for the DLC.
