I usually put the game I'm currently playing on my SSD and then move it to my external HD when I'm done with it. It's very rare that I go back to single-player games but if I do, I don't mind waiting the extra 30 seconds or whatever for them to boot up from the HDD. Games I play frequently, like Civ or FIFA, stay on the SSD.

Does anyone have a USB to SSD cable I can borrow?

Need to clone my SSD and MemEx wants $30 for a cable. All the reasonably priced Amazon ones won't ship to Canada.

In case you can't find one to borrow:

Thanks. Amazon can be so frustrating to search.

I didn't see either of those and the ones I did find were not eligible for prime or had huge import fees to Canada.

Cool, didn't even think of those existing.

It also looks like video cards are getting easier to find. I see a lot of 1080 TI's in stock, though at higher than previous prices.

Not sure where to put this, but I bought a gaming chair that's pretty much a bucket seat to act as a cheapo racing sim rig / desk chair:
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...11464677.aspx?

I managed to grab it on sale. It's very comfy, adjustable and quiet. Made in Vancouver as well:

Guardian series is the high-end, but looks like the other ones aren't too far from it. Good pick up if you find it on sale!

Do I need to do some bios changes after that? How will my PC know to boot off of the SSD?

What do I do with my existing HDD? I have backed it up to an external disk. I am intending on using it to host files.

This is probably at the absolute limit of my technical abilities.

Yeah there's usually a place in the BIOS that lets you set the boot priority to a specific drive, you'd have to check the manual for your computer / motherboard to see exactly how to do it.

I'd leave your existing drive for a while just to make sure everything is working, then format it once you're satisfied everything's fine, that's the easiest way without running into any permissions stuff that Windows will complain about when trying to delete all the stuff you don't need a copy of anymore. EDIT: Assuming you change the drive order, your new SSD should show up as C: and the old drive should now show up as D: or some other drive letter.

You may want to make a change to your existing drive AFTER you do the copy (i.e. put a text file c:\THISISTHEOLDDRIVE.txt) just so you're sure which is which lol, I think I remember having that problem once, not being sure I was deleting the right drive when both looked the same. You can go into Drive Manager to confirm too.

Dumb question.

I have to put the SSD in the bracket and connect to the motherboard to make the changes in the bios to get it to boot from it, right? Ie basically install the SSD...

I was thinking after I get it to boot off the SSD I'd disconnect the old drive and use the PC a bit before formatting the old one.

I was a tad intimidated at first as well so I just did it the moron way

-Saved files and stuff I wanted to an external drive
-Made windows boot drive on a USB stick
-Re-format HDD
-Completely wiped old HDD
-Install new SSD
-Start computer with boot drive inserted, re-install windows to SSD, restart, copy saved files back from external drive
-Install old HDD and remove windows from it
-done

Not the fastest way but pretty much idiot proof for a first timer like me

Yeah the SSD has to be connected to the computer for the BIOS to be able to 'see' it and give it as an option to boot from.

If they ever add custom waterloops and exact measurements it would make my planning for builds and determining the amount of material I need to buy for commissions a heck of a lot simpler.

But as it stands now it reminds me of that hotdog stand simulator on all computers at school in the 90's.

It's not bad at all. It looks like fun, but probably not worth the current price considering the limited playability. I wonder if they're working on VR support.

I'll wait until you can run the game on the PC that you build in the game.

Any recommendations on a new home router? Think my apple one has finally bit the dust.

This isn't meta enough. They need to add a game mode where you simulate watching a Twitch stream of someone else playing PC Building Simulator.

I was joking when I posted that, but look what the #6 most popular game in terms of number of Twitch viewers is at the moment:
