UPD: Olympic Athletes from Russia 2018 Olympic roster released
http://fhr.ru/en/main/ofnews/card/?id_4=14424
Not at the final roster yet but the IOC will allow the following athletes to play for the OAR hockey team. Datsyuk and Kovalchuk will likely be the biggest names at the Olympics
Quote:
Sergei Andronov, Alexander Barabanov, Anton Burdasov, Vyacheslav Voynov, Vladislav Gavrikov, Nikita Gusev, Mikhail Grigorenko, Pavel Datsyuk, Vasily Demchenko, Artyom Zub, Andrei Zubarev, Sergei Kalinin, Kirill Kaprizov, Bogdan Kiselevich, Ilya Kovalchuk, Vasily Koshechkin, Ilya Kablukov, Evgeny Ketov, Pavel Kraskovsky, Yegor Korshkov, Roman Lyubimov, Ilya Lyubushkin, Alexei Marchenko, Sergei Mozyakin, Nikita Nesterov, Nikolai Prokhorkin, Yegor Rykov, Ilya Samsonov, Andrei Svetlakov, Ilya Sorokin, Viktor Tikhonov, Ivan Telegin, Vladimir Tkachyov, Nikita Tryamkin, Maxim Shalunov, Alexander Sharychenkov, Sergei Shirokov, Vadim Shipachyov, Sergei Shumakov, Igor Shestyorkin, Dinar Khafizullin, Yegor Yakovlev.
|
Apparently some controversy though:
Quote:
These following candidates did not receive an invitation from the IOC to compete at the Olympic Games: Anton Belov, Alexei Bereglazov, Mikhail Naumenkov, Valery Nichushkin and Sergei Plotnikov.
Taking into account the heightened attention being paid to the question of our team participating at the tournament, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation feels it's necessary to state that the mentioned five players have not been banned from taking part in competitions. However, according to the IOC's program for Russian athletes competing at the 2018 Olympic Games, they have not received an invitation to participate in the tournament.
At the same time, the IOC stressed that these players are not guilty of breaching anti-doping rules. When inviting players to take part at the Olympic Games, the IOC considered a wide range of factors.
The RIHF are requesting information from the IOC for the reasons why these players were not invited.

All I can say is thank God we have the World Cup again and can forget about the IOC and their corrupt nonsense. OAR team? Just call it Russia. Having a major international tournament smack dab in the middle of the NHL season is also ridiculous.
The NHL just needs to tweak teams/qualification process for the WC and you have your ultimate best on best tournament.

Well they didnt invite Anton Belov just because he used to be an Oiler. Thats just common sense.

Not clear which Vladimir Tkachyov. There are two. The Oilers one and the one slightly older.
The Oilers Tkachyov is having a better season, but the older one has been part of Russia's national teams before.

Are KHL players going to the Olympics? If so, that gives Russia a huge advantage. It would be pretty embarrassing for Russian pros to be unable to beat the other teams. I realize that many top Russian players do play in the NHL, but many also play in the KHL.

All that intermarriage of European nobles and royalty, they are probably related.
The British royal family is basically German haha.

It wouldn't be that embarrassing. Nigel Dawes is the leading goal scorer in the KHL.
