I suspect some people want Notley to drop that ball, or at minimum find any pressing issue to slam the provincial government on. Even if the review is friendly towards our energy industry and makes sense, there will be people slamming the provincial government for waiting too long to release it, and blaming them for costing thousands of jobs.

This is likely a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

If I was Notley I'd make a B-line for the nuclear fallout shelter no matter if one drops or not.

They did wait too long to release it. What's in the report doesn't change something that's already occurred.

"People are going to be upset about something they're already upset about!"

Bold prediction.

Although I think she started out idealistic, I think even she has seen the light. My guess is it actually reduces royalties at the low end and cranks at the higher end.
I agree with the bolded. The question is how much of the upside does this increase eat and at what point does it occur. If it eliminates the upside benefit too much it kills investment.

Notley has already dropped the ball, Ozy. She's already starting deep in the hole, so don't start crying because nobody trusts her to pick it back up.

Personally, I think the current environment likely forced her to largely leave things alone. But I also think she is going to put us right back to square one in a year or two with another review when things start to recover. She wants that money to fund her other pet projects.

I really hope not.
If you're making changes to a royalty regime because you suddenly realized that oil prices could drop, that is a horrifying prospect.

I wish the best of luck to our provincial government - they're going to need it.

Maybe you, Ozy and his brother can get together and have a good cry about how nobody really trusts Notley.

Is there anyone here that can quickly provide a reasonable explanation of the impacts of a new royalty structure on the various types of projects.

I think a lot of the initial reaction will be wrong and emotional in either direction. But in about a week or so we will start to here the real impacts of this policy.

And before we skewer Notley let's remember how badly Stelmech screwed up his review.

It's really going to depend on several factors, some of which won't be immediately obvious.
But there are a few royalty reduction incentives that if removed, or substantially altered, could cause some rather large programs to be shut down in very short order.
Though, I'm relatively optimistic that that won't happen.

Easy fellas, no need for this to get all personal like, if you all don't play nice, I'll pull this car over and none of you will get to go to the public hangin.
