Well, considering Dion's posted articles slant against the minimum wage hikes, there is no straw man here. Dion also clarified his position, and he did it without resorting to being a pompous ass, unlike you.

I'm not saying I agree with the hike, but there is two sides to every story here.
|
Sure there is. But it could also come down to making $8/hr or $0/hr, because the company you work for decided it could not afford to pay the increased wage and fired you instead.

I think HBW was making a joke and not being serious.

Why do you feel as though people making $15/hour wouldn’t be looking to increase their earnings? $30K/year isn’t exactly going to land you in the middle class in Alberta.

Fair point. But, you are also free to go find another minimum wage job at another employer that might be in a more stable line of work. I don't think it's as 'black and white' as your example.

In a recession people don't always have choices and are sometimes forced to take whatever they can find.

If it was a joke, it's not funny in the slightest. This type of drive-by adds nothing to the topic at hand, which is in a completely different thread than what he's referring to. I actually like HBW, but this isn't necessary. It's petty and childish at best.

Ok? The minimum wage doesn't change based on a recession though.

What about the minimum wage in Norway?
What about resource allocations in the Sudan?

Yes, you could go and find another job somewhere else, but its still not a guaranteed that you get hired.
Much better scenario if you are able to keep your job with the current employer.
I think the NDP should have looked at increasing PIT exemptions for low wage earners instead of focusing solely on min wage increases.

The ability to pay workers more does when the economy improves. That said increasing the minimum wage during a recession when businesses are suffering was a bad idea by the Dippers. Mind you they had to do it before they got kicked out of office

Yet interestingly enough, according to the CCC, employers are now willingly paying higher wages to keep their employees above minimum wage, even though our economy hasn’t fully recovers yet and unemployment remains relatively high. Seeing as they clearly would have been able to do this even if the minimum wage had not been increased, is it not possible that there are some minimum wage employers who could have increased their employees’ wages before the increase but opted not to because they weren’t required to?

To be correct, some employers are now willingly paying higher wages to keep their employees above minimum wage. That doesn't mean everyone can or can afford to do so

Norway doesn't have a minimum wage, the average wage is about $21USD/Hour ($27.50 Canadian) and the unemployment rate is sitting at about 4%. This is also in a country that has an incredible social blanket with very high income tax rates. I am not sure Norway is a good example to use against arguing for a high 'minimum' wage?

It could also mean more responsibility and work load for less employees.

Apparently enough people for it to be reflected on it's Wikipedia entry.
Me obsessed with you? whatboutLocke? Look in the mirror. You're the one chasing me around.
What about that? You're such a big fan of whataboutism.
I guess its inconvenient when people dont play by your narrative.
