I don’t think the difference between these two teams is as big as people are making it out to be. Oilers finished a mere five points ahead of the kings and their goal differential was +16. It’s not nothing but I don’t think it’s particularly significant either. And given the kings 1-3-1 that they play I could see them frustrating the Oilers a lot. If the kings can keep these to low scoring games and capitalize on some chances this could be a very close series. The Oilers also have a dominant home and ####ty road record. Whereas the kings were pretty even at home and on the road. If the King steal one in Edmonton watch out.

It's the Kings goaltending that is the main cause for concern.

McPP will shell Talbot or Rittich.

Yeah, but compare their record over the final 3/4 of the season. The Kings started hot and have been quite mediocre since, and the Oilers were the opposite.

The only reason the last two went to seven games were some chokes by the Oilers and some overtime heroics from the Kings.

Agreed. We're past the point where Skinner is going to actively cost the Oilers games. I envision Talbot and Rittich will let in 4+ goals per game, and I don't believe the Kings will keep up. Hopefully I am proven wrong at this.

The Oilers will likely get the Canucks in round two as well. The 'Nucks have owned them all year long, so hopefully they fix the issues they've been having heading into the playoffs and take them out. Sucks that it would hurt our draft stock, but the Oilers elimination is of higher importance.

I won't be rooting against the Canucks for two rounds because with Vegas landing in the wildcard the next team that would be able to dispose of the oilers soonest is Vancouver. They can lose to Dallas after they get the job done.

The 1-3-1 trap gets talked about a lot, since it got a lot of media discussion and Doughty called it the best system, they started to get dummied.

LA will have to try and win 2-1 hockey games, they don't have the fire power to outscore Edmonton. I just can't see the tandem of Talbot and Riitich holding up.

the 1-3-1 works great against the Canucks. Literally everyone else has it sorted. It's not good.

It's a terrible system, if it was so good wouldn't more teams use it.

I recall when Crawford had the Canucks playing the 1-3-1.

I hope the hockey gods even the breaks and the Kings can get over the hump.

Kings in 6

It's a ruse, the Canucks want everybody else to think that the 1-3-1 works against them, so that in the playoffs opposing teams will use it.

I don't know if I would say that. Korpisalo wasn't very good. If anything it just didn't improve.

Unfortunately the Kings are one of the easier matchups in the first round. Their style is probably more suited for the playoffs but man are they a stale team to watch. Hopefully they can pull an upset

99 points and the 3rd lowest goals against in the NHL
This isn't the SJ Sharks

Oilers have struggled with decent teams all season
all this talk is good, even Flames fans picking the Oilers...they will have ALL the pressure

I know it was only the Flames but LA looked great defensively when they played them last. The previous game Danault was out and they beat them.

I think the Oilers win this one easier than the past two, only because 3 of the best players against them aren't there anymore: Vilardi, Iafallo, Durzi

The Kings made some terrible decisions.

Shortcutting instead of letting the talent cook (PLD).
