The Rise of Skywalker

Is that Ren? Or like, referencing Luke/Jesus rising after the 3rd day...

Or maybe Skywalker is a type of bread dough.

Make this movie as tense as you can. Make it as dark as you can. Make it feel like everything can be lost and the hero's could end up dead.
This exactly. I enjoyed TLJ for the most part, but the jokes definitely seemed out of place and unnecessary, especially the dialogue between with Poe and Hux at the beginning, which felt more like Spaceballs than Star Wars. Nothing wrong with a bit of humor here and there, but it needs to be in the right places and not feel forced. The original trilogy handled that balance pretty well IMO, as did TFA.

I've only watched TLJ twice to be honest, I just don't have an interest in watching it again. But the second time around I fast forwarded through Poe and Hux's scene and the scene where BB=8 smashes his head in to the switch board to fix the ship.

A bit of a heart punch when Rey was hugging Leia and the tear slipped down her cheek as Luke says 'We'll always be with you'. I'd imagine that was on purpose.

You're just an anti-Droidite.

Yeah, I had a bit of an emotional reaction to that at well. Seeing Carrie on screen is going to be a heart punch.

I think the title is a bit of a red herring when it comes to referring to Skywalker as a family name. To me This doesn't mean Rey is Luke's daughter. I think it means future force users will identify as "Skywalker".

Skywalker becomes the term used to describe a force user that balances between Sith and Jedi.

Anakin rode the line between Sith and Jedi, Luke walked that line, and it looks like Kylo and Rey may as well.

Sith = Dark
Jedi = Light

But both of those teachings were flawed and a balance was never found.

Skywalker = Balance and I think Rey will be the first “Skywalker” in this sense.

I think this also makes sense if Luke was the “Last Jedi”.

Episode 7 was about the force awakening, episode 8 was Rey learning of the Jedi (and the end of Jedi if Luke was the last), and now episode 9 will be her learning about the Sith and ending the Sith (crashed Death Star, Palpatines laugh). Then she ends Jedi and Sith an creates a new title of force users called Skywalkers - cue the end of the Skywalker saga.

What a convoluted mess of a trilogy. They never had a coherent vision at all.

The final episode of the first trilogy: Revenge of the Sith
The final episode of the second trilogy: Return of the Jedi
The final episode of the third trilogy: Rise of Skywalker

Could "Skywalker" actually be a title rather than a name? Or perhaps the name of the new order of Force users who are neither on the Dark Side or the Light?

"Every generation has a legend" is also directly from the original teaser for Episode 1.

Depending how this goes I think this could actually have the trilogy make more sense and actually tie it back to the prequel and OT.

To me this very much becomes about Rey being the force user mentioned in the “prophecy” and that this trilogy is about ending the Sith and the Jedi.

Prequel - introduced us to the prophecy and how The Sith rose through Palparine and Anakin. Gave backstory on Jedi as well.

Original Trilogy - was about the Jedi winning and redemption of Vader and victory of Luke vs. The Sith

New Trilogy - Ties back to the prophecy and shows that what we thought was a victory for Luke actually didn’t bring balance to the universe - the battle between Jedi and Sith persisted. In the end I think this will show Rey is the chosen one, that Luke was the “Last Jedi”, the Sith will be defeated in this one, and Rey will bring the balance with Kylo as the “First Skywalkers”

I know anecdotes aren't good evidence but I've probably talked to 15-20 different people about TLJ, and after the initial excitement of first viewings, basically everyone's opinion has settled into the range between "meh" and "that sucked my lightsaber". you can even feel it in the cultural impact, TFA spawned a whole lot more references and memes, while I can't remember anyone using a TLJ clip for anything these days.

anyways, I doubt that very loud, very vocal minority was responsible for the $700 million box office drop from Ep 7 to 8. that's a bit tougher to explain away with accusations of nerds, misogynists and racists.

Not to mention, the follow up movie, Solo, ended up being a huge economic loss.

I will admit this trailer has me somewhat hooked again though.
