Agreed, he pitched great. But I hate the Bosox and everything Bosox so I bask in the glory of his waisted effort.

If you send him to the minors is his salary still on the books? I really have no idea how contracts work in MLB

I think with his experience/time played unless he accepts an assignment, the only way is just pay him what is owed and say goodbye. Not sure Rogers is down with that, but he is hurting the ball club...no question.

They would designate him. At this point he can refuse assignment and become a FA, or go to the minors. (Assuming he clears waivers)
The Jays could also release him after waivers but pay him his whole contract

MLB equivalent of NHLs “two way” deal is a “split” contract, meaning the player makes a lot less in AAA relative to MLB. Morales certainly does not have a split contract, his money is guaranteed. The Jays options with Morales are as follows
1) Keep him on the roster and hope he figures it out
2) Trade him and most likely eat a large portion of his contract in the deal
3) DFA him and he will almost 100% clear waivers, play in AAA and make a lot of money
In all scenarios the Jays have to eat a bad contract. Unless they find a Mike Milbury MLB equivalent and he takes on that contract.

Full marks to the bullpen, yet again. Great season for them so far.

Its amazing that the somewhat cast off pitchers the Jays signed in the 11th hour are absolutely crushing it so far this season. Oh, Clippard and Axford all with ERAs under 2. Crazy how relief pitchers can come out of nowhere.
Now, hopefully the Jays can make the playoffs, but if they fall out of the race these guys will bring back prospects if they keep pitching like this. Like Joe Smith did last year. Hopefully Gaviglio and Petricka can do the same.

Blue Jays Lineup for game 2 against the BoSox
1. Teoscar Hernandez (R) RF
2. Josh Donaldson (R) DH
3. Yangervis Solarte (S) 2B
4. Justin Smoak (S) 1B
5. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
6. Russell Martin (R) 3B
7. Anthony Alford (R) LF
8. Luke Maile (R) C
9. Gio Urshela (R) SS
No Morales! Yay!
Urshela has arrived with the team, and Pompey has been optioned back to AAA Buffalo.
I didn't realize Urshela has no options left.
He had a great spring I guess, and almost made the Indians, so here's hoping they found something. Probably not though.

Holy #### the Jays got out of the top of the 1st inning without giving up a run, or multiple runs.
That's a nice development for a change.

lol I hate our rotation so much.
I absolutely can't believe how terrible they've been.

They'd have a good shot if they could stop spotting the other team 3 or 4 runs early in the game.

Also, what's going on with Stroman? How is it that he already needs a "mental and physical break"?
If it's a true injury, maybe that's why he's been so bad.

Biagini seems like a great guy but he's better suited as a reliever. This experiment is dragging on too long.

So far I'm glad I didn't bother watching. I think I have more confidence in Gaviglio being the 6th starter than Biagini.

How silly of them, to let Morales run in the 8th

Shades of last season going 2 for 13 with RISP and that was the difference today. Bullpen was stellar again though.

Deck McGuire called up, Gurriel back to AAA and Carlos Ramirez DFA'd
Glad they are hanging onto Morales though. Need to keep that guy on the 40 man.

I hope Gurriel does well in AAA and we see him back with the Jays soon. Admittedly I have very high hopes for him, I think he has the tools to be a very good MLB infielder.
I saw Alford was optioned to the Bisons as well.
I saw a quote from Atkins today, I can’t remember where I saw it, basically saying he thinks Morales is going to turn it around soon so I think we are stuck with Morales for at least a couple more months. Meanwhile in the article the author was talking about Morales’ high ground ball rate, low line drive rate, and his .500 OPS being one of the worst in the majors with at least 100 PAs, yay?
Edit: here it is https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/ml...gling-morales/
Quote:
“First and foremost, one of the most encouraging things we’re seeing from him is his work ethic and his professionalism,” Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins said. “The teammate he’s being. He has not reacted negatively. He’s only reacted with more work, more focus (and) attention to detail.”
“We still see a lot of signs of the potential for him to be a productive major-league hitter and hopefully we’ll see that sooner than later.”
|
The team needs a long man in the bull pen and Biagini is so well suited to that role, not sure why the Jays are so intent on him being a starter.

So either Vlad Jr. made an innocent mistake or he was trolling Blue Jays fans today.
He posted this picture today making everyone think he was getting called up but as it turned out he had just reposted a picture from December that happened to be from JFK Airport.
