Default 2018 Blue Jays Season Thread

Less than a week away. Excited to see how this turns out.

Sucks that the Red Sox and Yankees are powerhouses again, but hopefully the Jays can stay competitive all year and play relevant baseball in late September, and maybe even get into the 2nd wild card spot.

Really looking forward to following the Blue Jays high end prospects too. Lots of them in AAA this year knocking on the door, but what's really exciting is that apparently they are starting Vlad and Bo out in AA, and Pearson is going straight to high A Dunedin.

Aggressive, and I like it.

Any predictions for the upcoming season?

I'm going to be optimistic and say the Jays manage to stay relatively healthy and gut out 87 wins and take the 2nd wild card spot. Force a one game playoff against the BoSox.

Really excited for this coming season, though I am every year.

Jays have the rotation to be competitive, and should see a better overall result than last year. 2nd WC is in the conversation for sure, or at least should be. I'd put their odds at about 30-40% just going off current rosters and who they'll be competing with in that middle echelon of AL teams. Angels should be their main competition for WC2.

Can't wait for it to get started.

I think the Jays will play meaningful games in September but probably come up a few games short of the Wild Card. Will come down to the last week or so I think.

I think the Jays have a very good rotation but I think ultimately they are going to suffer at least an injury or two that will expose the lack of depth and while I like the improvements in their offense i'm not sure its enough to carry them unless they get upper end starting pitching. I don't think Red Sox are as good as they look on paper so I think the Jays will be competitive becuase i'm not sure the AL East is as good as it looks outside the Yankees.

I"m excited to watch the Jays though. Have some pieces worth watching and hopefully even more as guys like Anthony Alford and or Hernandez get looks at some point.

My predictions for the season:

1) Jays end up 4th in their division and miss the playoffs (but were close)
2) Tulo will play less than 81 games
3) Happ will be the foundation of the rotation and will miss 2 or less starts
4) Donaldson will be a beast again and be top 5 in MVP voting

I'd love for them to contend to the second wildcard and think they'll be in the hunt, but I just don't see them making the postseason this year. Should still be a fun season.

I think they will be just good enough to fool the fans and management to not trade Donaldson at the deadline, miss the playoffs, and be left with another glaring hole after this year.

Pleasant Surprise : Estrada 15-8, 3.41 ERA
Unpleasant Surprise : Morales - Loses job by August

My Pat Tabler tolerance level has already dropped to a near record low.

This team won’t win 85 games in the division we play in. The offence just isn’t there. Only hope the Jays have is if Sanchez, Stroman, and Happ have all-star claiber seasons and Estrada has a resurgence. Not saying it can’t happen, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Yeah he’s really starting to wear on most people I think. Reaching his shelf life.

My prediction for the AL East 2018 Final Standings

NY Yankees 96-66
Boston 93-69
Toronto 80-82
Tampa 75-87
Baltimore 70-92

I just don't see the Jays having the bats to even come close to making the playoffs this year.

I dunno, They had a quiet but effective offseason...

Bautista -> Grichuk
Carerra -> Granderson
Goin & Barney -> Diaz & Solarte

... those are all upgrades. if I had to bet I'd bet that they miss but it's not on account of bats and more on account of the fact that Boston and NY are such no-brainers and the LA Angels are making an honest go of it in the dog#### (minus the Astros) ALW.

84-78, 3rd in the ALE

I dont have much faith in this club at all. Relying on starting pitching to carry through the lack of hitting in the ALE is pure folly IMO. One injury to a starter and that blows up.

73-89

Hit a big league homer of a pitcher that was cruising through the Jays lineup. Kid can hit!

Vlad and Bo can't get here fast enough.

Man I hope the FO can surround these two with a competitive team.

Really excited for another season to begin,

I would guess the Jays will have around 81 wins.

Predictions

1) Donaldson will start the season, and will go onto the DL in April for leg problems once again
2) Injuries continue to be the focus for the Jays...
