Yeah, had intellvision, the II, got it in the US which was white and smaller than the black and gold original.
Finding games with the roulette that was the back room at Consumers, and then discovering games in the glass cases at Tops in Toys in Southcentre, or Kmart on Elbow and Southland were highlights as a kid...or going to some foreign part of town and finding a game there...good times.
If the redux controller does not come out with the number pad and disc, and overlays, fail.
Had a tonne of games...hockey soccer baseball basketball boxing, skiing, tennis burgertime, d and d with the map that moved only when you did, snafu, tron deadly discs, space andromeda, Vegas casino (card games), sea battle, armour battle, triple action, lock n chase, night stalker , Astro smash and probably a few more. Except Burger time, all Mattel games, as I think the third party games were mostly only in US...Burgerime came with the console when we got it in Spokane.
The number pad was so revolutionary. The system didn’t automatically let you control the player closest to the ball. You had to select the player or it would go right through them. Select the closer player in baseball or accidentally select the right fielder not the 3rd baseman. Football it was meant for big time; calling a play were a 4 key sequence (formation, run or pass, then about 25 plays from there), so plays were only limited by the amount of ram and processing power,no way you could do that on any console at the time. Tron deadly discs you could throw disc in all directions at a touch of button. Some controls were ####e though too given the setup. The disc meant you may not always go directly up or left or right as intended, it would be a subtle angle. A game like soccer, you controlled your goalie bizarrely by pushing up and down on the two hard small keys on the side of the controller, and they could only go up and down the line...usually you’re trying to control a defender too with the disc so dexterity was a necessity.
Also, got introduced first to unfair video game glitches. In baseball, where I played a lot of with my friends, a hard hit along the baseline was often a home run because the wall was the edge of the screen, even if that was just behind first base. And bunts down the foul line, that barely reached the edge of the screen if you let them go to see if they would be foul, almost always went for home runs. If they didn’t, the player could almost get to third the ball was going so slow (and sometimes it did go foul)Meanwhile smoke a gapper and it bounces off the wall limiting to a single.
And of course also introduced you to disappointment of a power surge or accidental brush against the machine that hit the reset button and all progress in a game was done.
