the girl when I call has done it for me right away, as long as I call before the start of that month? Who knows, might just be getting lucky. You can also switch it on their site.

But what the wanderer said makes sense - I've noticed the average price steadily creeping up - I expect the $0.08 fix will drop off soon. I may stay on it through the winter, even if we get a small drop below $0.08...

there is no charge to change rates with enmax.
you can change your rate plan but have to wait 30 days since the last time you changed.

So is it worth staying fixed? More electricity in winter I assume. Or just switch twice per year?

Consumers not locked into a long-term contract — about 72 per cent of residential users in Alberta — will pay 13.5 cents per kilowatt-hour in December, the highest monthly rate since the regulated option was launched in 2002.

I switched over to the EasyMax this morning. Should have done it a while ago but kept forgetting.

Thanks for the heads up. I just did it online. It was super easy. All you need is your account number and phone number.

Online doesn't switch right away. They told me it takes 20 days or something. Where as calling in gets it done on the spot. I recommend calling them to confirm.

the dec fixed rate is 8c/kwh
the day you call the rate will change.
If you signed up online it can take up to 40 days for electricity and 15 days for gas for new customers.

If you signed up online you can call and have the dates changed from the online sign up dates.

Expect higher than normal call times because of the news article.

CALGARY — Calgarians not locked into long-term power contracts will pay almost 100 per cent more for electricity in January than a year ago, according to the provincial utilities regulator.

Every flick of the switch during the first month of 2012 will cost 15.284 cents per kilowatt-hour to Enmax Corp. residential and commercial customers, the Alberta Utilities Commission noted on its website late Thursday.

I'm going to run my lights twice as much just to squeeze every penny of savings from my 8c locked in rate.

Sadly, in Nov my actual usage only made up 50% of my total electricity bill

BUMP - Seems to be the most recent Enmax thread, so I'll post this here.

Is it normal to have a few "out of left field" type bills from Enmax? Specifically electricity? Last bill was our highest yet, this month's so much lower.
Dec 13 to Jan 15 - 373.000 kWh (AV COST / DAY $2.14)
Jan 16 to Feb 12 - 10.000 kWh (AV COST / DAY $0.66)

1100 sqft town home & just the two of us (wife and myself). I get that they estimate some months, and we had that cold snap, but a 98% difference?

I'll give Enmax a call on Monday, just wondering if CP has any experience with such a shift.

373 sounds "normal"- maybe still a little on the low side.

10 is just downright silly; so expect a bill next month for double.

Just wanted to bump this.

Im setting up my utilities for my new place, and April floating is at 0.07, is it better to go Floating now or should i stick to Fixed?

Also who in their right mind would go fixed on easymax right now? 6.59/GJ is fixed whereas its 2.17 for variable.

I'm getting a little annoyed. We are on a fixed rate of $0.07/kWH but Enmax is bumping up "administrative" and "distribution" fees to the point where the ancilliary fees are costing more than the actual electricity. I did all my calculations and budgeting based on $/kWH but suddenly there are all these extra and ambiguously described fees on my bills that seem to be skyrocketing.

Is this a common practice? It's not well outlined and it feels a bit arbitrary and shady to me.

I've been noticing the same. It's horsecrap. We are paying more in admin fees and "transmission charges" than in actual usage fees.

The should really make this more consumer-friendly. I thought that de-regulation was supposed to fix all of these things!

I'd lock in at 8˘. Yes, this month is 1˘ lower, but as you can see December was considerably higher. I would say over the last year the average has been somewhere around 10˘.

Just a few months ago I renewed my 5 year commitment at 8˘; for what that is worth.
