Default Place to sell a non working vehicle?

As per the title, I have a van (for my work) that we need to dispose of. I know I could ping the kidney foundation, but in theory my boss wants more than a tax receipt for the vehicle. Anybody have any suggestions?

www.kars4kids.org

They apparently issue tax receipts.

Do they have a phone number to contact them?

Ya, but then you validate their horrible ads.

But he also said he wants more than a tax receipt.

I thought you could sell vehicle to Pick your Part.

Could try selling it privately then. Not sure if any of the manufacturers have a buy-back / corporate fleet decommissioning program.

Personally I think a tax receipt is about the most realistic scenario to get rid of it, outside of fixing it and getting it working again.

I've privately dealt with both getting a tax receipt and getting cash for derelict cars. My boss is hoping for $, but I wanted to see if anybody on CP had any experience with any of the pick your part type folks. I will add that it's not in drivable condition, but only because some dirtbag snipped the catalytic converter.

Throwing it on FB Marketplace and Kijiji and see if there are any takers. Non-drivable makes it a pain though. Your boss likely has to suck it up and take the tax receipt.

You can sell it for scrap or take the tax receipt. I sold a running Jeep for scrap for $450 last year just to get it out of here which is essentially what the tires would have been worth.

I’m going to disagree.

If it’s an otherwise functional work vehicle, assuming it’s not a total basket case otherwise, post that shut privately.

If it runs, other than private sale, is there an opportunity to trade it in? IIRC, vans are kinda in demand right now. People planning to throw together camper vans to drive around in the summer.

Maybe ask if your boss would be up for a $1K upgrade to do a simple camper van upgrade before attempting to private sale? (Or do that yourself with a colleague?)

EDIT: NVM, realized you said non-working in the title.

Kars for Kids has very low ratings by nonprofit watch groups and are basically the fundraising arm of a religious group. They've also been fined in the past for misleading practices and failing to reveal their religious affiliations.

They're an example of why many distrust charity groups.

Here in Lethbridge we have Airport Pick-A-Part. They gave me $250 for an 94' Tempo about 7 years ago. They came and picked it up. They dragged it onto a flatbed truck, gave me cash, and drove away.

I would think that Calgary has something like that too.

Auction options:

https://maauctions.com

https://www.regalauctions.com

As a non running vehicle you can’t expect it to pull a lot of money at auction.

I never understand situations like this. Like...you have a 5,000 pound poorly-maintained inoperable paper weight leaking oil, coolant and god knows what else, but you want money for it? Like, maybe if you wanted to retain value you'd have maintained it or sold it when it was still worth something. A missing catalytic converter doesn't write-off a vehicle, so that's moot.

Drop it off at the junkyard, fix it and sell, or put it on Kijiji "as-is" for $500 and see if you get any bites. It's not rocket science. There isn't a hidden market out there for POS non-working vans. The question is just kind of ridiculous.

Put it on Kijiji someone will scoop it up hoping to make a buck. The missing cat will hurt the value but it doesn't render it non running. Someone can just add a flexpipe and run it that way if they are in a pinch.

Around here there are lots of guys grabbing anything on 4 wheels. When I had my acreage I would buy things like this all the time and part them out. Scrap value on the hulk at the end was decent enough too.

Now if he wants $2000 for a $500 basket case you've got a different problem.
