It's a crappy cell phone shot but figured it's worth sharing to compare.

Cell phones do pretty well when you have a lot of light and want everything sharp. What bigger cameras do better are low-light and selective focus/bokeh.

Sunny start to the day, but big ominous clouds promised rain very quickly and they did just that.

My issue with it is how it washes out brighter objects outside the main subject, like the mountains to the right. The non-HDR version of the shot got those mountains right, but the main focus was too dark.

These aren't very good, but does anyone know what bird this is...a young eagle maybe?

This was in Fish Creek this morning and I had seen it it across the river. It caught my attention being quite large, larger than an average hawk. I turned around for a minute, then turned around again and the damn thing was coming right at me! I managed to get a couple shots off before he took off into the trees. I wish I hadn't turned away after I first spotted him, as I probably could've got off a couple really good keepers.

Yeah. It looks like a juvenile Bald Eagle to me.

Strathmore area today.

The pictures don't come close to showing how gorgeous it was.

Venus, Mars and The Moon lined each other up last night. Pretty cool to see:

Also chose to zoom in and focus on the Moon for a sharper image:

Last week I went to XiLing Mountain in Sichuan for a little holiday. The views from the peak were incredible! Here are some pics I took with my phone

Decided to jump into Lightroom tonight and see if I could breath some extra mood into some of my older shots. Ended up getting some interesting results with the Split Toning sliders, which actually saved some shots that had previously been pretty brutal due to the overall tone/colour.

Most of my shots from Old Montreal had been particularly disappointing to me, but I may still be able to salvage them yet.

CY, If you head out into that Chestermere, Strathmore, Irricana triangle area, I'll almost guarantee you'll see a snowy owl. I've been out 4 or 5 times in the last month or so and haven't come home without seeing at least a couple. Usually they're on power poles, but I've seen them on fence posts, hay bales, etc. as well. The closer to Irricana, the more there seems to be.

Would you suggest driving Route 9 north from TransCanada towards Irricana or some specific lesser roads in the area?

I don't have a specific road to recommend, but any of those township and range rosds east and south of Irricana toward Strathmore have worked for me. Look for them on power poles on highway 9 the closer you get to that area. Perfect day for them today!
