It is funny that many people on this very forum view this type of blockage and disruption as idiotic while the continuous disturbance caused by the HK protesters as admirable....

Unlawful assembly and obstruction of a peace officer seem like good places to start

I'm curious as to how a lawyer would comment on whether this type of tactic is unlawful or not. Seems fairly grey, to be honest.

I'm not sure where the law stands here. The protestors can assemble on the side of the road without any infringement on their rights to protest on public land. Standing in the road is illegal and the police have the responsibility to stop illegal activity. You can get a ticket for parking on the street after 3pm, or you can get your car towed. Giving these guys a ticket and then just walking away seems like a failure of law enforcement. If the protest went on indefinitely there would have to be a point where all the people are towed away. Who decides when that point is?

Haha, glad I took a flex day off work today. I might head over there and record some footage for you by guys. Hopefully there’s some good public freak out type video for everyone to enjoy.

If I was the police I'd hire a Oprah look alike.
And you get a ticket, and you get a ticket, everybody gets a ticket.

Could you please name names? You seem to be attacking strawman CP members. I'd like to see you show who is both praising HK protesters while simultaneously denouncing these people.
Thanks.

The right to protest, of course, is protected.
I think their methods are idiotic and will be counterproductive. But the simple fact is, you have no more right to be on that patch of road than they do. And as long as they are not threatening violent civil unrest, the cops will let them do what they plan to do.
Especially because it will fizzle out fast if left alone.

Didn't this happen with the Stampede this year, where it was simply decided that people could protest the Stampede on the sidewalks but not on the road? I could be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure it falls under the "causing a disturbance" and could get you arrested if they really wanted to shut you down. One of those fine lines.

But think of all the awareness they will raise! So many people still don't know about it, they need to get the word out.

It comes down to how intransigent the group is. Sometimes, you get ones willing to not be complete a-holes like the rodeo protesters. Someitmes, you get people who mix melodrama with narcissism, and you end up with something completely ridiculous like "extinction rebellion".
The cops could probably find any number of reasons to crack down on the disruption, but I suspect they feel that letting the kids play in traffic for one day will minimize the chances of a repeat.

Thanks for chiming in with the CCP talking points, I gather the consulate is heavy on the propaganda right now.

Sorry, these people are absolutely ####ing insane. I believe in climate change, but the alarmism is off the charts and it is doing more damage for the cause than good.
