It's such a relief to not be fussed with OOT at this time of year. Flames should try this more often!

The Flames are only 11 points from 96. My ridiculous prediction of hitting 96 points at 69 games might actually come true! the Flames would need to go 5-1-1 over better in their next seven to make it happen. I believe!

Tonight's win moves the red snake to a new season high of 13.244 points above the black line, 14 points above the purple snake and 15 points above the orange snake. This marks the 43rd consecutive game above the black line, with a minimum of 11 (new high!) more guaranteed. A record of 4-14-1 (0.237 point percentage) in the remaining 19 games would give the red snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 113 points.

What's really crazy is Tampa's goal differential is almost twice ours, and we're 2nd in that category.
That blows my mind.

Darn. I forgot to post a tidbit after the Ottawa game. The red snake could lose every game the rest of the year and still finish above the purple snake.

What I love about these graphs is the perspective. At this point, last years Flames were still better than the 14-15 playoff team. For all the woes of how terrible last year was, the team was on track for 75% of the season. But the difference this year is showing is astounding, only 5 wins from beating the snake with 20 to go? Amazing!

Yeah Tampa is absurd.
Tampa Goal Differential = 77
Flames (49) + Bruins (27) = 76
yet so are we:
Flames Goal Differential = 49
Nashville (24) + Winnipeg (24) = 48
Tampa (77) + Edmonton (-33) = 44

How is Calgary doing compared to the best season Calgary has ever had? How is Calgary doing compared to the best team in the NHL this season. Holy shat!
Both Calgary and Tampa have played 63 games this year. Tampa is ahead of Calgary by 13 points, as they hit the 100 point mark tonight. Tampa is on pace for 130 points. That would crush the 1988-89 Calgary team's record of 117 points in 80 games. That would fall 2 points shy of the 1976-77 Canadiens mark of 132 points in 80 games. It would beat the 129 points the 1977-78 Canadiens earned, but they also did that in 80 games. The 1995-96 Red Wings achieved 131 points in 82 games.
The blue snake is up on the purple snake by 8 points and 13 points on the blue snake.

Looking at it, I still get upset about the magnitude of the collapse last year, because the team actually looke like they were in ok shape for long stretches of the season. It's a pretty remarkable event looking back at it. And for some reason the Oilers couldn't wait to grab Gulutzan after such a devastatingly bad performance. Incredible stuff.

That Tampa line is amazing. Yes, the Habs had one of the best teams of all-time. But they were also in a position where they could cheat the system a little and get an advantage with francophone players. Nevermind that there were far fewer teams in the league at the time and many of them were still relatively new and not that established.
That Red Wings team was also amazing but they essentially outspent most teams to get the best players albeit so did the Leafs, Rangers and a couple others but the Wings did it better.
What Tampa has done so far has been incredible considering the salary cap and the relative parity in the league. If they continue to play like this and win the Cup they may go down as the best team in history. It's unfortunate that the Flames are having an amazing season that might otherwise see them finish first overall, if not for this historic run by the Bolts.
