I'm normally a big proponent of now judging people off all the opinions they hold, like Cliff, but I don't feel like you were in the wrong here.
They're generally the parents of some of my closest friends and I consider them close friends of mine as well, so I'm not about to go scorched Earth on them but it's a really unsettling feeling being friends with people who hold opinions that border on genocidal.
And predictably the 50+ year-old, white conservatives on my FB shared this in earnest. I had to unfollow them. I know Cliff likes to bitch about progressive intolerance and siloing but I'd honestly like to hear what the value is in sticking around for opinions like this?
This does not represent the vast majority of conservatives view on the matter. You would be very naive to believe that. Conservatives come in all colours and ages as well, seems like you are making some vast assumptions. That statement is from an Alt-Right politician, please don’t confuse the alt-right with conservatism, they are no where near each other on the political spectrum.

It has been said of Brexit that while not all Brexiteers are racists all racists are Brexiteers, the same is true of the Alt right, they are all conservatives, the Alt right is the logical extension to the extreme of conservatism and while I agree most conservatives are not alt right a lot more of them than you would care to admit hold some alt right views

It's not a color or race thing. Maybe a generational thing?
My own mother called me this morning to say the Muslins deserved it. I hung up and went to work a bit shaken.

Conservatism is pretty much obsolete and irrelevant at this point, isn't it? Maybe the Tea Party shares some common ideologies with conservatism, but Trumpism and the Alt Right don't.
Does a tolerant, financially conservative even have a clique to hang out with anymore?

These guys are not angry, single guys, in their 30s, spewing bile on Twitter. Their 50-60 year-old, Canadian family men, who carry water for the UCP and CPC on the regular. Acting like these beliefs aren't at the core of a lot of conservative rhetoric, particularly when issues such as immigration are being discussed, is dangerously naive.

Well, folks, the elections at both levels of government are still a ways off, but it looks like it's never too early on to start your engines on the fearmongering and "bigotry by association" rhetoric.
Seriously, to paraphrase my earlier question to Manhattanboy about Iran, what the #### does Canadian politics have to do with a mosque shooting in New Zealand?

Iran, Canadian politics, YouTubers, it’s all available here for the low low price of using an act of terrorism to make a point.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a LOT of factors that are related to this horrible event that are worth diving into. But, there are so many that talking about which internet celebs are/aren’t racist, which Canadian political affiliation has the most old people sharing dumb ####, and what’s going on Iran today SEEMS unnecessary. But that’s me.

Yeah, you know what? I apologise. Like I said, seeing that #### get posted by people I know, love, and respect got me pretty rattled and I think I just needed to vent.

I just wanted to hop back in to say that naw, research his follows and retweets my dude.
Also TB was (rightfully) made light of because he very publicly told someone to "get cancer and die" and then he (TB) got cancer and died. He wasn't even remotely close to PewDiePie's level of ####ty however, just a bit of a wank.
As someone who has been watching PewDiePie for years, I can safely say you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You are demonstrating a complete and utter lack of understanding of his humour and the inside jokes that he has with his fans. You literally could not know less about what you’re saying. It’s embarrassing.
I can also say that I checked his Twitter and I got bored trying to find any alt-right personality he’s retweeted. I know he’s retweeted Ben Shapiro but if you had a clue what you are talking about you’d recognize the meme. I don’t know what research you did but it clearly wasn’t very good.

I thought the anchor nailed it when he spoke about the viciousness of the political debate that exists in our day and age...
using political dog whistles in order to generate anger and galvanize a group against another group will invariably lead to untended consequences.
there's no equivocation - there are fanatics everywhere, and exist regardless of their religiosity... attacking innocent people en masse in service of some deranged socio/political agenda is by definition terrorism
Politicians need to pump the brakes on this kind of inflammatory rhetoric and realize its corrosive effects on civil society.

Stupid comparison, by that same thought process we can say not all liberals are fascists, but all fascists are liberals and a lot more liberals hold fascist beliefs than you would care to admit.

Quite good but he needs to familiarize himself with Finsbury Park Mosque, particularly when taking about terrorism.
I’m not sure if your angle with this comment, but I am sure he’s familiar. It was the target of a terrorist attack. If you’re referring to it’s history before it got shut down over a decade before it was the target of a terrorist attack, your familiarisation should be updated.

Again, this is another post where... what? Fascism now? Not only does fascism oppose liberalism, but I’m scratching my head wondering what fascism and liberals have to do with this event.

You do understand the philosophy of a liberal and fascist are utterly opposite of each other? you could use this analogy for a socialist and a fascist, or even a conservative and a fascist but the one political philosophy other than anarchist you cannot compare a fascist to is a liberal.

Wow this mentality is scary as hell. This is exactly how Nazi Germany came to power. We never learn from history do we. This will keep happening as long as alt right propoganda is allowed to get a national stage. It has grown so much lately.

Very powerful and poignant reflection by a Australian TV anchor.
The comments are disgusting. I thought even on this issue these people could at least be respectful but wow. Scary times coming indeed.
