Mangiapane makes it 4-3 with less than 4 mins left in the 3rd, but SD adds 2 EN goals.

Stockton outshot the Gulls 21 to 7 in the 3rd and 44 to 33 for the entire game.

Heat lose. Final score 6-3.

Lazar assisted on all 3 Heat goals.

Gillies finishes his relief performance with 16 saves on 17 shots.

If Lazar keeps it up he will be back after the mid point of the season. I’m thinking they are going to give him lots of time to get his game going because he might not clear waivers if they ever want to send him down again. I’m hoping when he comes back it’s to stay for good

Heat have recalled defenceman Willie Raskob from KC. I imagine he is a place holder until Nielsen joins the the team.

Willie Raskob's first AHL game, he shoots right, maybe there's a chance of him getting a contract if he has a good showing this year.

Nick Schneider has now played enough minutes to be listed as a qualified goalie on the AHL stat page. Although he has played the fewest minutes of all qualified goalies he ranks 2nd in AHL save percentage and 3rd in goals against. Jon Gillies ranks 46th out of 47 in save percentage and dead last 47 out of 47 in goals against. Tyler Parsons has not played enough minutes to be deemed qualified for the list but his save percentage is worse than Gillies. Parsons is still injured.

Gillies has a one way contract next year at $750,000 if he doesn't turn it around in a hurry he might get bought out.

Won't he just be assigned to Stockton, and have to pass thru waivers?

You don't need to buy him out, you can bury his entire NHL salary in the AHL to keep it off the cap.

Gillies buyout has some merit.

Because he is so young, his buyout ratio is 1/3 instead of 2/3. It would cost the Flames two season of $125k cap hit and salary instead of paying Gillies $750k next year in the AHL.

In total it saves the team $500k in real money for minimal cap penalty.

It also simplifies matters for next year's AHL goaltending giving Parsons and Schneider the 1A !B slots instead of a potential 3 headed monster.

That is pretty damn interesting. And tightens the screws on young Gillies just a tad.

So when is Parsons coming back?

Do we even know what's wrong with Parsons? I don't recall hearing any information about his injury or his expected return date.

All I heard about Parsons was it was an upper body injury. No idea when he will return. Schneider didn't have a good night tonight. He let in 5 goals on 14 shots Stockton lost 6-4 to San Jose. Let's see how he responds next start.

I don't have much faith in any of Gillies, Schnieder or McDonald turning into NHL quality starting goaltenders.

I could see them becoming decent backups but I don't see much more out of that group.

Parsons needs to stay healthy or he will be in the same boat.

I think he has what it takes to become legit but needs to end the string of injuries stat.

I hope it's not anything related to mental health again. I know the kid has been dealing with it and hope he has it under control.

So maybe good news? Hopefully it means he’s back soon. Really would be nice to see him get back healthy and on track.

How has Andrew Nielsen looked in the AHL? I just noticed that he has a similar stat line on the Heat as he did with the Marlies in 8 games.
