The ones that got away.
I've made quite a few trades that I later regretted.
This NHL season has been a constant reminder of when I traded Oliver Kylington for $600k. That is probably not my worst trade, but it stings right now.
Then tonight I was looking for what team owned a certain goalie and saw a previous trade that I bet the unnamed GM regrets right now.
So it made me think...
What's the worst trade you've made?

I drafted Kaprizov and Mark Stone but didn’t even trade them. Just flat out released them because I didn’t have room
I also traded Slavin for a third

I regret every trade the minute I press the accept button.

Ryan O'Reilly for Ed Jovanovski
I drafted O'Reilly with a late 1st and he slipped to the 2nd round in the NHL draft. I didn't want to do the deal but I think Ravi convinced me. Never listened to him since.

I’m lucky in the fact I forget trades very shortly afterwards, I move on and don’t remember who I traded to get what. I’m pretty focused on the player I received
But something that haunts me are times I had a player like Carter Verhaeghe for his minor league career. Was very hopeful for him but was too cheap to grid a “AHL” player and released him so I could sign him during FA for 3 years at a 850k. I lost him being too cheap. Stuff like that happens all the time, I have player that no one is at all interested in and they are on my roster taking up space. The moment I cut them, they finally get a NHL break

I signed Connor Hellebuyck as a free agent (he was undrafted in the CPHL) and then traded him for a 2nd while he was still an AHL prospect. That one still bugs me.

As part of the package obtaining Evgenii Malkin, I traded away the 2022 Columbus 1st, which it's looking like has Shane Wright penciled in. That one could end up hurting. The Kings have not had many high end pieces for trade to play with, and I hate to look back and see that one was a throw-in.

I watched Wright with the Don Mills Flyers and thought I was watching the next generational talent. I’ve watched a few games this year and wondered if Shane was even dressed

Two years in the league, so nothing drastic yet, or nothing that has yet revealed itself.
But I’ve a feeling trading the 1st in 2023 for the Couturier deal is going to come back and bite me. Need to find a way to be a playoff team, to avoid being in the draft lottery.

Before this season I traded Michael Bunting and Evan Rodrigues for Nino Niederreiter.
Yikes

Evidently I also drafted Jesper Bratt:
88. COL - MINNESOTA- Jesper Bratt
I can't even find a record of when I traded him so I guess I released him for nothing.
Cool. Cool.

This one has been bugging since I made the trade with Goffie. I fooled myself into thinking that I should move Kevin Fiala for a few pieces - some to help now and some future stuff.
What I received in the deal really wasn't a good fit and I ended up moving some of the pieces for other players that may or may not work out in Buffalo. In the meantime, Fiala is on the heater of a lifetime and now sits at 84 points. I have regrets lol.

I get attached to following the prospects on my team, so when I trade one away I spend way too much time trying to get them back. If I trade for a prospect, I can't let them stay on the team too long, or they might as well buy a house.
