how did I not hear of this until today? It's happening here in Canada, too.

Parents call for the removal of Iron Maiden-loving school principal for displays of “satanic imagery

https://www.nme.com/news/music/paren...magery-3066404

Parents at a Canadian school have launched a petition calling for the removal of its principal, an ardent Iron Maiden fan, who allegedly shared photos of herself paying homage to the group using the school’s social handle. The “concerned parents” say the post’s affiliation to Iron Maiden demonstrates “satanic imagery”.

the best part of the article

An update from the group insisted they were not targeting Burns’ admiration of the band, but the “satanic” visuals affiliated with Iron Maiden. “If she had not posted a picture of her own handmade 666 sign, this petition WOULD NOT EXIST. Nobody cares what band she likes and this is not about her choice in what she listens to. That would be petty and nonsensical.”

https://etcanada.com/news/827101/par...on-maiden-fan/
According to a Change.org petition, parents of the students at Eden High School are calling for Sharon Burns’ removal after discovering she’s an Iron Maiden fan.
Over 500 people have signed the petition in agreement.

Following the first petition, another in support of Burns emerged, titled “We need Mrs. Burns”, and has received over 21,000 signatures.

I guess he's out of the hospital and back home now, yeah that was surprising and scary.
Rob revealed today that he was battling prostate cancer through the pandemic.

And Glen Tipton has Parkinson's disease although he's still involved and they're making a new record.

Former guiatrist KKs new band is kinda just okay to me. The mighty Priest is not so mighty anymore although still good.

wanted to see them live in November with Omnium Gatherum here in Salzburg, but they've now cancelled the whole European tour for personal reasons. Bummer. Guess my first concert experience since pre-Covid times will have to wait ...

Thoughts on the new Mastodon? I haven’t made it all the way through yet given the 413 minute running time or whatever.

I'm a fan. It's different for sure, but packed with lots of great harmonies and riffs. I dig the melancholic overall feeling, it's a natural continuation of both "Emperor of Sand" and "Cold Dark Place" IMO. Will probably throw off some of the purists but I really like it so far.

A couple stand out tracks and several ok ones that felt like filler, which I guess is the risk of a double album.

I love Mastodon though, so I liked the album overall.

I like it but double albums to me always means that filler songs are an inevitability. I feel that the first half of the album is much stronger and they probably could have ended the album after Savage Lands (one of the best songs on the album) and it would be better. I've only listened to it front to back twice so my opinion could change (see below) but I like it more than love it.

So after listening to Eternal Blue 5+ times my opinion has changed from meh to it being one of my favorite albums this year. Initially I felt they were kind of a Jinjer/In this Moment rip-off band but after repeated listening it has grown on me a lot. Initially I felt that there were too many Sirius Octane type of songs but they kind of grew on me.

I think I actually prefer the second half of the album so far. "Peace and Tranquility", "Eyes of Serpents" and "Gigantium" are all great.

and yeah, I still have "Eternal Blue" on heavy rotation too. The only small gripe I have is that it feels more like a singles collection than a cohesive album, but I pretty much love every single song on there.

Probably unavoidable seeing a handful of the songs were released early. Not sure if I'm a fan of the Gojira pick scrapes as that seems like a bit of a ripoff to me but that's maybe my only complaint.

Tatiana from Jinjer gets a lot of attention, but Courtney LaPlante is right up there as one of the best female vocalists in metal

I adore her clean singing but her growls and screams IMO come off a little like a Butcher Babies reject. I don't think her range is as good as singers like Tatiana, Cristina Scabbia, Maria Brink, Alissa White-Gluz (also Canadian), etc. It doesn't detract from the music but I feel it's a little forced at times. They have a nice easy to listen to sound that's got a bit of an edge so I'm okay with the growls and screams seeing the only show up in the breakdown part of most of their songs.

speaking of Alissa White-Gluz,it's a shame she doesn't really get to use her cleans for Arch Enemy. Then again, I can't fault this.

a few former In Flames members have formed a new band called The Halo Effect. They've just released their first song, with an album expected to be released in 2022.

The entire band played for In Flames at one time or another. Mikael Stanne was the original lead singer for their debut EP. I like this song but have never been a fan of Stanne's vocals.

Whoa that's the lead singer from Dark Tranquility! DT and In Flames merging? I'm definitely gonna check them out.

two new albums out today that I've been looking forward to for a while. First off, there's the new Swallow the Sun record, which is gloomy as always. One song also features Cammie Gilbert from Oceans of Slumber, pretty cool.

and then there's the new Volumes record. It's a band I've only gotten into these past couple of months, but I really like them. They play a blend of metalcore that just works for me.
