I still think Puljujärvi would have been a great NHL:er had he been drafted by an organization that offered him proper guidance growing up. Puljujärvi had some fantastic tools, but mentally he was just a little kid.

Since 2009, the Oilers have had zero defensemen put up 40+ points.
In that time, the Flames have had Phaneuf, Giordano (5 times), Wideman, Brodie and Hamilton do this.

In fact, going all the way back to 1995, the Oilers have only had about 3 40 point seasons from their defensemen. Calgary has had about 20.

I remember how badly they treated Sheldon Souray. I don't see any free agent defencemen signing there anytime soon for any length of time.

One year take what you can get use them to get points and run. Only place where he will get guaranteed top Line and 1Pp minutes.

Barrie will help their PP and overall offence but he will make the D worse overall.

Every move they have made this off season seems to improve offence and make the team D worse. Kahun, Barrie, Pulju, Turris. None of these players can play two way hockey. They are weak for team defence. Not having is Klefbom is going to hurt more than they think.

How much can Barrie really help their powerplay? They were historic levels last season and really there's nowhere to go but down as it's hard to imagine even with Barrie they are at 30% like last season. That said special teams were the main reason they were even in the playoff conversation so any dip in PP or PK could be crippling as goaltending will likely be no better or worse.

The PP is their ventilator that kept them alive in the race to begin with.

So question is how long does a historic PP remain historic? Because they'll need it to be.

They're a basement team through and through at even strength. And the numbers back that up.

I dunno, the kid doesn't seem all that bright. We're talking about someone who's clearly looking to make the NHL and can't speak English from a country where 70% of people can speak english.

I think it’s going to cause problems.

Why fix something that’s not broken? Whether we like it or not the Oilers had some pretty solid special teams work. With Barrie in the fold, it’s going to ruin the PP1 chemistry. McDavid and Draisaitl need the puck to make plays happen, now they have to give it to someone else who is not even half of what they can do.

And despite spending 3 years in North America, with nothing to do except play hockey and hang out with his English-speaking team-mates.

Exactly. Why not focus on acquiring more players who draw penalties? What’s better? More power plays or a slightly improved power play percentage?

It’s the oilers. No one is hanging out with anyone.

Well you remember what Ference said about his experience there, the young bachelors would 'chill' and bond over the young millionaire lifestyles while the vets just showed up and kept to themselves. Whole thing sounded rather casual and unstructured, deferring to the leadership of the young twenty somethings to pull the room together. I dont imagine the team dynamic has improved under McLeader.

Now that's just silly talk. They all hang out in the Mall. The whole city.

They did a fantastic job to hide his hangover! Gotta commend those makeup artists!
