It’s too bad Rittich couldn’t squeeze in there somehow with the season he is having.

Looking at the list, there's no one I would substitute with a Flame based on their performance.

I can name a few. You'd rather have Patches instead of Chucky, for instance?

Wow. This list is an embarrassment. Not trying to be a homer or anything, but Tkachuk and Lindholm should have made this list.

I'd obviously have Tkachuk and Lindholm on the list over some other players, likely due to bias, but I don't think this is necessarily a crazy take. Especially as it's clear it's heavily biased to offensive production.
Tkachuk, Lindholm, Gaudreau, Giordano and Monahan should all be near honourable mentions and combined they provide a solid core, but certainly they aren't top 30 type players this year, and that 30-80 list of players become pretty subjective.

I mean, is that really surprising?
No one is having a particularly good season. Could you argue that Lindholm or Chucky could be in the 40-50 range? Maybe, but we certainly don't have anyone that is playing above that right now.

Dougie Hamilton is the 25-best overall player in the game right now, according to this list. 5th-best defenceman.

Yeah, that's going to happen with defenseman who put up near point-per-game paces. It's not like he's any worse defensively than Karlsson or Burns were when they were looked on so highly. Injury aside, he was on pace for 70 points.

Calgary and Ottawa are only Canadian teams without a single player on the list.
Btw, I'm just commenting on the list. I'm not opining one way or the other.

Good. This team does better when they are considered underdogs. All last year they were in first in the conference and no one gave them respect and it just fueled their fire. Hopefully something like this can have the same motivation.

The fact that it is called a midseason ranking tells me that it's based on performance this season so far, not who is a better player.
Obviously, Bryan Rust is not one of the 50 best players in the NHL but he's having a great season so far and no Flames are having great seasons.

Interesting: Only Mathews and Marner make the list. No Nylander, Tavares, Andersen. Trying to shake the Toronto Sports Network moniker?

Until the playoffs where a slight breeze snuffed out their fire. When the Flames are underdogs, they play to expectations. When the Flames are favorites, they always play below expectations. 2004 and 2015 are the only years in living memory that the team actually played above expectations

That's for sure. Crosby at 22? He may have been injured, but he's still a top 2 player.
It's really a list of who is actually playing best this year, not the actual best players.

Weren't you the guy saying Monahan/Gaudreau/Lindholm/Tkachuk aren't top line players? Solely based on this year?

well yeah, because that's exactly what they state in the article.
The best players this season up to the all star break.
