Back at Winsport for pre, pre-camp #Flames stories you've been waiting all summer for. Monahan, Giordano, Kulak, Brouwer are skating.

In that case I am surprised that Ramus Andersson has less games then Kylington played.

Kylington has spent the last two seasons in the AHL. Andersson only has one.

Oliver Kylington drafted out of Europe could be assigned to the AHL before he was 20. Indeed he immediately moved to the AHL the season after being drafted.

Rasmus Andersson unless on loan from SWE was drafted out of the CHL and thus couldn't move to the AHL until his 20 year old season. Because of his birth date this allowed him to move to the AHL a year after being drafted. Most CHL draftees have to spend their 18 and 19 year old seasons in the CHL before moving on to the AHL. Andersson was already 18 when drafted, played his 19 year old year back in junior and then moved to the AHL last season for his 20 year old season. Both Andersson and Poirier moved to the AHL early in terms of years away from being drafted because of their birth dates.

Thus Kylington has been in North American Pro Hockey for a year longer than Andersson.

All three are forwards. I wonder if Flames will bring in any defenseman?

Based on his draft year/age and performance during his rookie season I thought he would skip this. I suppose he only played in it once so it isn't a total shocker I just assumed since a guy like Poirer who is younger and was at prospects camp would be in this ahead of Janko

So...

Mangiapane - Jankowski - Foo (should be dominant)
Dube - Phillips - Fischer
XXXX - Ruzicka - Joly
Carroll - Pollock - Smith

Valimaki - Andersson
Ollas Mattsson - Healey
couple other guys

and a stacked group of goalies

anyone else of interest?

^ I would expect Dube to play center and Phillips to play right wing

I am still really high on Phillips, I think he is our most talented forward prospect. With his size though time will tell if he can make the transition. Will be fun to see him in this tourney though. Come on Sept 8th.

official roster is out:

https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/2017...er/c-290861776

Invites:
Dove-McFalls - 2015 4th round pick Penguins. attended Flames development camp
Gawdin - 2015 4th round pick Blues. attended Flames development camp
Hawerchuk - still eligible for the 2018 draft assuming Flames don't sign him out of this camp
Morrison - 2015 4th round pick Rangers. attended Flames development camp
Rassell - attended Flames development camp

Doetzel - I believe Freeway confirmed Doetzel re-signed an AHL deal with Stockton. Attended Flames development camp
Ruopp - 2015 5th round pick Blue Jackets. attended Flames development camp
Helgesen - did not attend development camp
Watson - could be another AHL deal in the waiting. 23 years old ouot of the NCAA. Former 2012 6th round pick of the Sharks. Did not attend development camp

just a reminder that prospects playing in Europe and the NCAA do not play in this tournament

A few players who were drafted by other teams in 2015 and left unsigned.

Kind of makes up for the fact that the Flames only have three guys left from that draft (Andersson, Kylington, and Mangiapane) after not signing Bruce and Karnaukhov going to Russia.

Additional note on Cliff Watson, he was at one point an A ranked prospect by central scouting for the 2012 draft, which means projected 1st round pick. Obviously he didn't live up to that billing, but at one point scouts saw something in him.

I was just talking about Tyson Helgesen on the weekend. Helgesen played a game on my sons Bantam AAA team. He got injured in a road game with an open ice hit in the corner, never played AAA again that year. He was an affiliate on the roster. Must have really picked up his game since.

Not a lot of surprises other than Watson and Helgesen. Interesting that they held onto so many CHLers from development camp.
