When you have Alford and Pompey working their way back from injury, and Gurriel playing very well in AA on a MLB contract (not to mention Smith Jr languishing in AAA), Grichuk is looking like an experiment that didn't work, and should be shipped out to a desperate team for a minor league reliever.
Hernandez looks like a solid 4th, or platoon partner. He deserves to stay up.

Alford and Pompey are unfortunately probably just working their way back into their next injuries.
I doubt they bring in Grichuk only to give up on him after 17 games and 60~ plate appearances because Hernandez has hit well for 4 games since being called up.
Neither player is likely to continue hitting the way they have so far, and by the end of the year Grichuk could easily end up as the better every day player. Also, I imagine the FO plans on these two guys being around for a while as outfield options. A while as in years.
^ agreed but if this sub .100 hitting stretches into the 150 ab range then you have to consider putting productive players both on the field and on the bench. Especially if they are still looking competitive and poised for a playoff push
The one sure thing I thought going into this season was we would have an offensive upgrade in right field.
I really like Grichuk, but man he keeps letting me down. He looks like a guy that could be a huge asset and powerhouse if he gets going, but how long do you wait? I think they'll let him sink or swim for a bit longer, but he needs to show something soon.
