Of the 100 people most recently shot and killed by police officers in Canada, nearly all are male. Most are either white or Indigenous, although when population size is taken into account, Indigenous and Black Canadians are far more likely to die in a police shooting than white Canadians.

Me being afraid to be pulled over is proof of a black Canadian man being afraid to be pulled over by the cops.

You can literally type into google "systemic racism in Canada" or "racist policing in Canada". It's not that hard.

I’m aboriginal! My dad was 100% cree. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that there is more racist in the aboriginal community than there is in the police.

Yep, there is allot of pent of anger and hatred in some of the natives in this country. I’ve seen it first hand. I spent most of my teen years in the 90’s living in Grand Prairie, and it was pretty bad.

So your argument is really just whataboutism? It seems like there can be similar problems in multiple different places, can't there?

This is a really interesting thread; a lot of smart takes from many different angles. I think that all together they reveal something about the way that the pro sports boycotts are received by people. There seems to be two main ways to read the situation.
1. The boycotts speaks to you. For personal reasons, the audacity of shutting down the playoffs comes across as a profound expression of solidarity, sacrifice, and adding a powerful voice - entire sports leagues - to the BLM movement.
2. The boycott doesn't speak to you. For personal reasons, the fact that a delay in playing several games/matches won't likely result in any substantial change, makes the boycott feel like another merely performative gesture in the context of a movement that is already so much larger, spanning the entire US and sparking in other countries.
And I think there is some truth to both of them, and would not try to delegitimize anyone for falling into either camp.
There are also a few irreverant, trollish, and even offensive posts making off-colour jokes right now. I don't know what they really indicate about what the posters making them think about the boycotts, or BLM, but I think even they send a particular message about the current state of affairs:
Some people need a reprieve from the world's problems and the constant moralizing about what the right stance is.
There's BLM, Covid, Bubbles, Boycotts, Hong Kong, the Economy, Schools reopening, Trudeau, O'Toole, Trump, Biden, Jinping, and man, I could go on. Sports was a welcome distraction from that a few hours at time. I don't condone the offensive jokes, but to the degree that someone might want to toss out a zinger just to deflate the whole thing a little, I understand that too.

As opposed to you calling me a liar for sharing my experiences because it doesn't fit your bull#### narrative?
It was meant to be offensive because you are showing everyone how big of a piece of garbage you are as a human being.
