Gotta think he’s gonna get paid but I have a feeling it will be south of 6 mill… the jealousy regardless of what the AAV ends up being is real.

Weird that it's 6 and not 8. Was he not able to sign an 8 year deal?

Shocking that he already got handed 9 mill especially with the flat cap and obviously I’m way off on what I was thinking but he will earn every penny of that contract.

Maker wanted his deal to end at a time when he was still young enough to get an 8 year deal.
He got paid now, and will get paid again in 6 years.
It’s the same strategy Johnny employed, ensuring he would reach UFA at an age where he was still in his prime.

Buys 2 UFA years I believe. Similar to Johnny’s deal out of ELC

This deal buys two years of UFA.
A significantly better deal than what Chicago paid Jones. Good for the Avs, good for Makar.

That’s heavily in favour of Makar. Pretty much the minimum term when you get paid that much.
ETA: I don’t think Jones is a good comparison - that’s just a bad deal. Heiskenan is the comparison.

Is that a record AAV for a defenceman coming off of an ELC? Not saying he isn’t worth it, but I can’t think of anyone who re-signed for more...

Never seen an agent explain the contract breakdown before on social media.

Can we jihad the Avs board over the next 6 years with constant insinuations that Makar will be bolting for his hometown Flames?
It’d be nice to have another fan base have to deal with this.

It’s actually less aggressive than the Phaneuf deal the Flames signed.
When Phaneuf signed for $6.5M x 6 it was for 12.92% of the cap.
This Makar deal is only for 11.04% of the cap.
