To make things worse, Milbury made the trade so he could select Dipietro first overall.
SHould've just kept Luongo and Jokinen and drafted Dany Heatley or Marion Gaborik

To be fair Dipietro probably would have been a franchise goalie if not for injuries.
But Kvasha was such a soft and frustrating player.

Yeah DiPietro was looking really great for a while there. Shame it didn't work out for him.
Lou hasn't made any bad trades as isles GM but his cap management is becoming Milbury-esque

He also traded Chara and the #2 overall pick (Spezza) for Yashin. Imagine the Islanders with Chara, Spezza, Luongo, Heatley/Gaborik, Jokinen. Would have been like the Senators but with a goalie.

And then signed Yashin to a 10 year $90m contract haha.

More recently Phillip Myers was at a Flames camp. Too bad they couldn't sign him.
Also the fabled great training camp of Robert Dome - only to have him not make the cut. He never did anything after in the NHL, but at the time, it seemed like he was a missed opportunity.

Wayne Simmonds as a Sabre is going to be an all-timer.

To add to the discussion: Both Fuhr and Cujo playing for a year in Calgary still seems like something I dreamt up.

I've always found it amusing that that Steve Smith was on the Flames at the same time as Fuhr. It lends new perspective to game 7 vs the Oilers in '86 (for any young'uns who might on the off chance not be familiar with that classic).
Haven't gone through the whole thread, but Mark Messier & Mats Sundin Canucks was weird. Brodeur & Hull were mentioned on the first page.
And it seems like a lot of guys faded out in Florida, Phoenix or Atlanta.

Does anyone have any memory of Jim Paek in a Flames jersey during the 95-96 pre-season?
Context: I grew up around Hartford and my dad used to bring me to as many CGY games as possible. Flames came to town during September '95 and I swear I remember Jim Paek playing for us (on a PTO I would think). To this day, I have found zero evidence of this and I consider myself a pretty good internet sleuth.
