Of course. While I'm not a fan of this I can understand it but still, disappointed.

Thank God. I thought they might have gone with a coach who has a proven track record of some playoff success.

Figured as much. Was really hoping for some change but I don’t expect much of a different team this coming season.

Same team Minus Brodie/Hamonic

Weird it would take this long to remove the interim tag but with costs being cut across the board I think it was wishful thinking they would spend big on a coach.

Hard to discern what Friedman was specifically saying. To me it sounded like Friedman was saying because nothing else has been said by Calgary, that he's assuming that means Ward is staying.

His quote:
"There is no comment from the Flames, but word is beginning to seep out that it's trending towards Geoff Ward returning as the Head Coach of the team for next season. The word is, again with no comment from the team, that it seems to be trending in that direction".

Not necessarily, but a definite history of good performance overall in playoffs as the head coach would be nice.

Yeah, saying 'but word is beginning to seep out' is very different than just saying 'we're not hearing anything, so I'm guessing that means Ward'.

Well if the Flames were looking elsewhere some one would have some info on who’s been interviewed.

It's too bad this core of Giordano, Backlund, Monahan, and Gaudreau may have never been given a real shot with a top coach.

To me given that exact quote, it sounds like Friedman is hearing that it will be Geoff Ward but no one from the team is commenting on it.

Protecting his source...could even be a test balloon to gauge fan reaction (or lack thereof).

From a business standpoint, no reason to do anything until they have to worry about actually selling tickets.

Offseason plan.

Step 1. Do nothing
Step 2. Do more of #1.
Step 3. See step 2.

Edit:
Step 4. Go on the radio, tell everyone its a long painstaking process.
Step 5. Remind fans we won't do stuff just to do stuff. AKA, we are not gonna do stuff.

With everything going on these days I can’t see them caring what the fan reaction is to any of their business decisions.

Well this would be the dumbest, most disappointing thing they could do.

So, of course they’d do it.

Don’t think I’ve ever had enough of an opinion on a coaching hire to respond with anything but general fan excitement - but if Ward is the head coach, I’m against it and disappointed by it.

I think we know that BT looked at every available option. He works super hard. And much like with Gulutzan, Ward is just the best guy for the job.
