Default Start 33

At this point I am convinced. Anyone else? Let's give our support to 33.

I'm not! He completely fell apart as the starter last year after Smith got hurt.

He didn't "fall apart as the starter", though, and definitely not enough sample size to say so. Gave us some great games, gave us a few bad games, and the team completely let him down in a few more games.

From the "sample size" of this year, this game is 1-1 or 2-1 Rangers with Smith starting tonight. Just saying...

Imo he's doing a decent job in the games he's played. Watching his reaction time and athleticism, hes not going to be what we want - a serviceable, reliable starter.

Sometimes goalies improve. I think he looks better than he did in his wins last year.

If Rittich plays like this he will get plenty of starts. If he plays well they both should see around 50 games hopefully.

So either the Flames make it to round 3 of the playoffs, or the goalies are constantly getting yanked.

I hope it's the first one.

I agree. Goalies can take years to develop. Let's enjoy his development as he gets better. I think he should start till he messes up a few games. BTW, great game by our Flames!

Hathaway scored a goal tonight. Therefore he's a point per game player. Hathaway for first line winger!!!

Rittich has a lot of good fundamentals in his game, also appears to have a good mental makeup, and is liked in the room.

The team let the goalies down last year, not the other way around.

Hopefully we see him continue to be solid

Give him more starts sure, Smith is still number 1 until 33 proves it over and over

I think we should give the new Finnish sensation ‘Hover Reactson’ a good long look

I'm fine with going to the ol' Play them until they lose to see if someone can get some momentum rolling.

I'd definitely like to see him in Montreal, and evaluate as we go along who's getting the bulk of the splits. I don't love the 'play until they lose' as it doesn't consider the season's workload.

After Montreal, I'd like to see Smith against Pittsburgh and Washington, with a decision to be made who gets Toronto in the back-to-back with Buffalo.

If Smith plays like a #1 against those two top teams then we continue that hot hand for a 3rd game and then a well-timed game or two off against Buffalo and the Avs (3 on 2 off). If he's more of what we've seen so far, 2-game starts between the goalies would be a good rythm to start the season until someone stands out.

I'd actually like him to continue a bit longer with the spot duty. He made many great saves last night but quite a few of them were precipitated by the fact that he tends to nonchalantly push out juicy rebounds. I really think he needs to (and could) learn to steer many of those into the corners.
