How do you propose getting Saros?
Nashville is going to want something the Flames won't give up.

How would Rinne being older make Saros more expendable?
Secondly, why would NSH trade Saros?

No they won’t. He’s the last player they’ll move.

Why wasn't Brad Treliving able to trade for Marc-Andre Fleury before the Expansion Draft?

At Rinne’s age, Nashville would be looking for a huge return for Saros. Say goodbye to Valimaki and a first. Same with Columbus, Korpisalo is their backup plan if they lose Bobrovsky. Unless the extend Bob right away, Korpisalo is going nowhere. All the young, available, up and comers have been acquired recently. Grubauer, Raanta, Darling (up until last season) are gone. Pickard is a possibility but his stats are only slightly better than Gillies and Rittich (obviously larger sample size though). Save for a low chance of a huge deal involving Price, I think status quo is pretty much guaranteed. Make whatever sacrifices you need to the goaltending gods that Smith starts out like last year, remains healthy and that Gillies or Rittich cement their status as a quality backup 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻.

2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors

I believe MAF has been quoted saying he went to bed on the eve of the trade deadline prior to the expansion draft believing he was going to be a Calgary Flame, although I might be mixing that up with Bishop prior to the draft. MAF was definitely open to accepting a trade to Calgary.
From the Flames perspective, I could see them scoffing at a high price because they believed that Elliott could carry the load through the rest of the season and into the playoffs. At the time of the trade deadline that year, Elliott was playing his best hockey of the year...so I can understand it from that point of view, even if it did blow up in their face in a huge, series-blowing explosion of failure.

The main reason is, Pittsburgh really wasn’t open to it. And with good reason, as it saved them and got them another cup. I don’t believe they would have pulled the trigger. They were okay losing him as they had a good shot at another cup while their team is fully loaded.

Man, some of you are really impatient with waiting for one of Gillies or Parsons to take the reins.
It's pretty ridiculous to be honest.

There is no time to be patient. The rest of the lineup is ready and cap friendly.
They need a guaranteed starter for the next 3 seasons. It would be awesome if one of them stepped up and took that, but at the same time I see 3 years as their development timeline.

The window is now open. We’ve gotta have reliable goaltending to have a true shot at being a legit contender.

Okay, we need a legitimate goalie for the next 3 seasons.
What options do we have to fulfill that? What elite goalie can we pry from some team that has a goalie for us? The fact is there are no good options, the good options are all on their respective teams, or we have to go for a stopgap goalie yet again/wait for the younger ones to develop. It's unfortunate but that is our best bet. We lost out on finding an elite/potential elite goaltender via trade missing out on Fleury, Bishop and Grubauer.

Yeah, that’s why we are in the “Trade” thread discussing options.

They need to luck out on a cheap goalie acquisition blossoming in the organization.
It may hinder our chances paying a steep price for a known commodity in net. I think we want to have this year's 1st to hopefully boost the teams core in a couple years when the current crop has all arrived at their primes.

Yes. I think we need our first to hopefully grab a good forward. We are weak on blue chip forwards.

No, the window is open now and won't be forever. Goalies rarely turn into to NHL starters, so waiting for Gillies or Rittich to maybe become starters could literally burn everything we've built dating back to 2013.
It would be completely asinine for management to take your approach to solidifying our goaltending. There are options, some that cost a lot, but make no mistake Brad has been trying really hard to snag the right goalie and will continue to do so or he will likely go down with the ship if we crash again.
Also, this is the trade speculation thread, people are speculating on a trade involving our biggest weakness.

This isn't directed at you.
The concept of a 'window to win' is a complete farce. It's this type of false hope that leads GMs to make bad trades, particularly at the deadline, for that missing piece(s) that will put them over the top. Buying at the deadline has historically involved a draft pick(s) and depending on the quality of the player a high one. These are the picks that a franchise needs to keep the cupboards full of prospects.
No question that players have an expiry date, and having to deal with the cap exacerbates how long you can keep your 'core' together. Feeling this extra pressure that somehow there is this fake window to win creates the environment for poor decision making. It's like group think on crack.
